Movements: I. Moto perpetuo; II. To Archaeus; III. Finale, gradually emerges from an initial pedal on A. Seven pitches soar above this pedal, generating the whole composition.

CHAMBER CONCERTO for Horn and Percussion is, in the opinion of professionals, one of the finest achievements of Badian’s first period, and a revolutionary composition in 1976. This composition incorporates a series of accomplishments through experiments and musical technologies: The piece has the character of a conversation between two personalities represented by the Horn and the Percussion. It is scored for horn and 21 percussion instruments (one percussionist). Its triadic structure implies some rhetorical procedures.

PROFILES for trombone solo was commissioned to Maya Badian by the International Competition for Young Performers, Vercelli, Italy, in 1978. 
 The title "Profiles" comes from the idea of the meaning of the word "Profile", allowing the performer to create distinctive shapes, outlines, contours, shadows - all of them giving birth to a complete range featuring specific "profiles" of the Trombone, arranged, each, in particular settings. In my composition Profiles, this is exemplified by the participation of the trombone’s inner logic in the building of the macro-structure of the whole musical form.
The melodic contours of all three movements
 I. - FIRST PROFILE;  II. - SECOND PROFILE;  III. - THIRD PROFILE - are unified by the continued use of augmented fourths, sevenths, and semitones. The virtuosity requested of the
performer by this piece is entirely based on the trombone’s characteristics and sound.

ECHOES for Flute Solo is part of an open cycle of compositions that I dedicate to solo instruments exploring, at different levels, the idiomatic writing - technical and expressive possibilities - of the instrument, along with the relationship between the sound as a natural, physic element and its metamorphosis into the arts of sounds, the musical meaning. 
Some idiomatic writings used in this composition are: flutter-tongue, glissando, slap-tongue, and many others, while stimulating the flutist’s creativity!

Echoes for Flute Solo by Maya Badian

In MOVIMENTO for Woodwind Quintet, a series of sounds is stated at the beginning as a theme and, then, certain motive ideas are extracted from it. The section Meno mosso is an allusion to the chorale-like style. It is based on composer Maya Badian's original theme, presented in a free canon. She stated: I initially use dodecaphonic serial techniques avoiding the rigid application of these approaches, by adapting them in an innovative manner.

Dr. MAYA BADIAN is an internationally renown contemporary classical music composer. She is the only Canadian composer of Romanian origin to have her life and accomplishments reflected in the book: The Life and The Music of Maya Badian, A Privilege to Soar by Fred Popovici (Pro Ars Publications).
LUCIAN BADIAN EDITIONS publishes and internationally distributes all of Maya Badian's works.  Library of Congress, Washington, DC; Library Božidar Kantušer, Paris, France; and Library and Archives Canada have acquired Dr. Badian's published works for their collections. 
Library and Archives Canada has requested and preserves Maya Badian's entire output of manuscripts, archival documents and recordings officially titled, MAYA-BADIAN FONDS Mus. 228 (since 1993).
All of Badian's orchestral, concertant, chamber music, and works for multi-media that form Dr. Maya Badian's compositional output, are successfully internationally performed, in public concerts.
