CWPT are proud to reissue Acopia’s self-titled sophomore album, available on vinyl outside of Australia for the first time, and accompanied by two powerful new digital remixes from Daniel Avery and JD Twitch of Optimo.

Based in Melbourne/Naarm, Acopia’s music is a careful control of tension and release, sparseness and warmth, momentum, and space. Across ten tracks, the band’s three members move across post-punk lamentation, shoegazing DnB, smoldering trip hop and subdued electronic pop, as they carve out their own hazy world of romanticism and restraint.

Leaning deep into the heavier palette of his celebrated sound, Daniel Avery transforms the skeletal intimacy of ‘Be Enough’ into skittering, hardcore-indebted, warehouse material. Already established as a breathless highlight of his recent DJ sets, lead singer Kate Durman’s gossamer vocal is layered into a feverish dream state, holding strong beneath an onslaught of kicks and atop powerful bass weight.

JD Twitch conjures his extensive knowledge of brooding outsider music throughout a rich, lucid dub of ‘Holding On’. Coaxing out the band’s gothic undertones, Twitch pulls away a billowing sheet to reveal layers of guitar feedback that recall the resplendent gloom of This Mortal Coil or Sunn O))).

On his debut solo LP ‘Utility’, Barker [@voltek] turns his focus toward melding experimentation and dancefloor pragmatism with the psychology behind the musical decision making process.

‘Utility’ is a playful but non-ironic musical approach to a whole spectrum of utilitarian and transhumanist ideas: from models for quantifying pleasure and “gradients of bliss” to abolishing suffering for sentient beings (not just people) through the ethical use of drugs and nanotechnology. Over nine tracks, Barker’s vision ebbs and flows through waves of deeply psychedelic musical vignettes; free-floating and futuristic melodies and rhythms as targeted brain stimulation.
