The song “stands for every single thing we stand for,” says trombonist and keyboard player Michael Spearman — creating community and spreading kindness, as the house band for former professional football player and sports commentator Jason Kelce’s late night talk show. After riding the high of the viral hit “Bad Bitty,” which he says he wrote in a McDonald’s, J.P. reveals a range of emotions on songs such as “My Peace.” It’s “a song of resolution,” he tells SoundCloud. In this exclusive commentary, they break down the making of their third album, ‘Girl Violence.’ Lead track “Jaime” is less about a specific person, Princess says, and “more an idea of someone who will never accept you” — a lover, a work colleague, a record label. “Everybody’s got a Jaime.” On “RIP KP,” King Princess explains they were shooting for a “No Doubt-slash-trip-hoppy feel,” while the track “Cry Cry Cry” is about “a pop star I tried to be friends with but it went horribly wrong.
