"An untethered, organismic slide into a bulging, folding sound world created by artist Luke Lund. Through the 13 shapeshifting tracks that make up Helikaalinen (Helical), fractally growing and regrowing sounds spawn from each other, transforming organelle into organism. This non-periodic yet repeating music mirrors chaotic processes found in the natural world, meandering in dynamic tension around the strangest of attractors.

By creating a deftly-modulating, never replicating sound system in constant search of equilibrium, Luke catalyses a sonic environment where past merges into future, as the present fills our ears with rhythm-becoming-pitch-becoming-rhythm. In Helikaalinen we celebrate resonance on a cellular level: the emergent complexity inherent in all of us, striving onwards to eventual bifurcation.

The graphic design of Helikaalinen is based on the custom font designed by Stephen McEvoy and Luke Lund.

Helikaalinen typeface is a sprawling, modularly designed decorative font in .OTF format. It consists of 26 asemic uppercase glyphs replacing the English alphabet. The structures can be branched out with ligatures formed by tightened kerning and leading.

'Unearthed' Mix previously unreleased variant

"The Suontaka sword was found in what was previously interpreted as a high-status woman's grave at Suontaka Vesitorninmäki, Tyrväntö, Finland. The grave dates from the late Nordic Iron Age, c. 1040–1174 AD, and it also included another hiltless sword with silver-inlays that was placed directly on the buried corpse. Ancient DNA analysis found that the individual likely had Klinefelter syndrome, indicated through the presence of XXY chromosomes. The individual had been buried in a female dress with three brooches. According to the authors of the 2021 study, "The overall context of the grave indicates that it was a respected person whose gender identity may well have been nonbinary."

cc manifests as a clandestine force within the realm of maximal minimalist music. Connor Camburn (aka Litüus), the interdisciplinary sketcher behind this sonic entity, builds ethereal matrices from the barest of elements. With a keen focus on automation and repetition, Camburn speaks a textural language deriving inspiration from unorthodox origins, intertwining non-musical constituents with suggestive contextual references.

Within the cryptic domain of Camburn lies private press @chained_library. An homage to the medieval practice of chaining the most valuable manuscripts to their shelves as a safeguard against theft, Chained Library emerged as a treasury of self-published works sourced from the archives and back catalogues of himself, friends, and strangers. Purposefully eschewing the conventional markers of individual identity, these recordings exude their unmistakable acousmatic essence with an ethereal presence, even as they undergo the process of mechanical reproduction. A testament to the beauty of anonymity, Chained Library has unveiled gems from entities such as /\\Aught affiliated Eliza B.C., Xth Réflexion and Thought Broadcast. Camburn’s equally unified visual presentation, like a finely crafted code, is a testament to the library’s elusive nature — shrouded in cryptic allure and through its restrained aesthetics, weaving together a front of symbols, typography, and imagery fostering an aura of intrigue.

With each work emerging from a theoretical null point and stripped of preconceived notions, there’s an unavoidable beckoning to yield to the bottomless pit of listening, interpreting, and overstepping mere auditory reception.

SPECTRAL SHOCK episode 6 is a double takeover and a blind date between Australian electronic media virtuoso Matt Warren, a long-time friend of mine, and Infinite Spirit Music, the maverick selector Lionel Lamadon.

Lamadon beckons you to an extraordinary soundsphere where spoken word, sound poetry, and industrial echoes collide in a deep, meditative dance. From Colapsoloxias in Spain to the grand finale at EP64/64 in the UK, Lamadon's fearless exploration knows little bounds, leaving an indelible mark on Bristol's experimental music nights.

Lamadon’s choice crackles, acousmatic hums, and snapping micro-rhythms forge a hyperreal ecology of insectoid swarms, unfolding with a deliberate pace and multi-layered hypnosis. His triple-deck collage is an agar plate of natural sounds, meticulously processed electronics and backboned by a tape from his friend Ogrob. Initially intended for recording bat frequencies, it quickly metamorphosed into a fertile field recording, capturing elusive hexapod ultrasonics, environmental elements, and more — showcasing the unpredictable beauty that arises from the convergence of avant contortions and the organic world.

Warren bridges into liminal terrain with his background in immersive electronic installations and border-crossing compositions. His artistic inquiry delves into the grey areas between memory and perception, aligning seamlessly with the esoteric realms of psychedelia, digital abstraction, and hauntology. Warren taps into the electro-acoustic, weaving drone spells and collaborating under various monikers and gracing global stages and residencies from Cologne with Damo Suzuki to Montreal with Voivod’s Thériault.

Warren’s mélange embodies the timeless power of sound to inspire and uplift the human spirit, commemorating significant anniversaries and paying homage to pioneering minds who have paved the way in the field of audio dramaturgy. Through a mosaic of recent, soon-to-be-released, and unreleased works, he weaves a lush and nuanced narrative, traversing the depths of his influences and personal context, where past and present converge in a sublime balance.

Noise in Opposition returns to the front lines with a rage-fuelled monolith of heavy roiling drone and drang from long-time comrade Luke Lund of Terranean Recordings. 
Recorded in a “spiteful mindset” but with a more complex mood than that implies, with echoing rhythmic stabs looping through dense electronic murk and walls of guitar sometimes as reminiscent of Sonic Youth as of Skullflower. A powerful piece from Luke and a flag planted firmly in the ground marking a new beginning for Noise In Opposition's anti-fascist, anti-bigotry audio project.

Vanity Publishing presents five hazy minimalist pieces by Luke Lund, turning focus on semantic satiation and phonaesthetics. Drawing references from dada sound poetry with the sole help of vocal repetition and audio processing, words are dismantled and reshaped into metaphoric iconographs made of evocative sonic textures that take form in a rich array of dynamics and rhythm. 

From the suffocating existential dread of ‘Ääretön (Endless)’ to the frail return of the stretched-out ‘Valo (Light)’ or the sparkling hope of — well — ‘Toivo (Hope)’, Lund's newest is a proper treat that'll reward you through its explorations into possibilities of the human voice beyond the limits of language. 

Reflecting on present day societal discourse, loss of meaning and semantics are put under spotlight here as well. Sonically speaking, most importantly considering the medium: if ever there was an EP for those confused, late/early zoning out hours, this would be it...

NIO3 is the 3rd volume of the Noise In Opposition compilation series, dedicated to giving a platform to underground electronic/experimental/avant artists wishing to stand up against the far right. Included in both the download and on the physical DVD-ROM is a 77-page zine containing text from Quartersized & Laica, art from Displaced/Replaced & Maxim Peter Griffin, a 24-page exclusive comic from Gareth A Hopkins and contributions of text and images from the artists above. The album (all 4 hours 15 minutes of it) has been designed to be listened to in order, like a mixtape taking you on a sonic journey, put obviously you can chop it up and do things like make playlists of all the noise tracks, or all the ambient tracks etc.

"This is a call for maintaining the international solidarity with the revolution in Rojava. It is a musical interference against the imperialist war machinery, against capitalism. It is campaigning to raise awareness about the struggle of the Kurdish freedom movement.

This compilation of 90 tracks was put together to support the feminist movement in the autonomous area of Northern Syria. All proceeds from the digital sales will be sent directly to the ‘Foundation of the Free Woman in Rojava‘ (Weqfa Jina Azad A Rojava) which is one of the last women’s organization in the area.

Rojava established itself not only in opposition to the Turkish military regime, but also as a grassroots movement redefining the future of the region on its own terms. The Kurdish resistance is advocating for women’s equality, LGBTQIA rights, ecology, sustainability, and democratic confederalism. It has created its own strategies outside western political pressure. The Turkish invasion is not only destroying lives, but also extinguishes any hope for substantial change. The attacking army has superior technology and simply “more of everything” to suppress the revolution in the cruellest manner. We stand with the resistance in northern Syria and the people who defend their autonomy.

In the wake of being opposed to such an absolute violence, we asked ourselves what can we do to support this struggle? How can we engage our community and our skills to defend Rojava? We feel obliged to point out and continue the emancipating history of club music and how it has been connected to equality and freedom movements since the beginning. With the compilation we spread the idea of Rojava through our networks and on the other hand we try to redistribute resources. Although we choose to make music, sometimes very loud and noisy, we can never cease to listen and learn. The revolution in Rojava shows us how deeply entangled we are in postcolonial relations and motivates us to deconstruct existing conditions and structures. That’s how we understand being an ally.

Because the war against equality and freedom is a war against all of us."

Self-taught producer, art director and label head. Though for the past 14 years his repertoire has drawn references anywhere from club culture's obscure fringes and caustic industrial clatter to musique concrète discretion and knuckle-dragging rock — it all feeds into his sense of sonic intensities and improvisational, organic production values. Lund's work is fixated on close examination of timbre and texture, at sword's point with passive listening. More recently he has shifted into employing contextual methods of capturing and processing sound, twisting into bewildering new forms.
