We caught up with Greek DJ and producer, LOONEY for a little talk right before getting crazed by his soundscapes.

Looney is the project under Kyriakos K. based in Greece!
Started like as bass player in the age of 13 and played in local bands (Rock – Metal – Hardcore style) in his hometown from 1992-1996 and continue and pass into the electronic scene in 1997 !! since then started to play as DJ around Greece and Europe and slowly started to learn about electronic music production and get deeper into the psy scene !! At 2010 the first releases came out and slowly evolved into a forest psy music pioneer with numerous releases till now, in most well-known labels !!!! the last years looney is performing his music in Festivals around the world and make new cooperations and projects experimenting with new styles and ideas !!!!! The style hypnotic and twisted…is giving to the listener the different layers of frequencies in an orchestral spectrum of unique sound and deep psychedelic twisted tunes !!!

The Theory of Nature was consciously derived from the energetic aspiration to co-create a journey through soundscapes translating folklore and fantasy into a non-conformed sonic adventure through the senses of the truth, whilst keeping traditional Goa Trance as the medium of inspired communication. Crafting the Listening sound not without the mindset of composing existing to preset psychedelic creations, but to bridge reality into the great unknown. Thus this album proposes to enter a new creative paradigm. 

Déja Vu = a feeling of having already experience the present situation.
That physical construct that indicates that ‘we’ve been here before’. The driving and deep bass, constructs a substantial dais for exploration, combined with trippy clicks, hums, and gizmos that are a prelude to the trance-induced eventuality influenced by hypnotic drumming. The expedition is cushioned by triangles, harps, shakers and marimbas in geometrically perfectly-timed intervals, to inspire feelings of unity and an unforeseeable cloud-burst. The main mode is a melody Carly would often sing in her head at parties as she attempted to make more of the bass than that which was offered, moving-up through pitches until a sense of harmony was achieved. 

Theory of Nature was constructed with the intention of bringing calm, peace, rebuilding and healing to over ten-thousand people who suffered great loss in the devastating Knysna Fires, 7th June, 2017, in South Africa. Consisting of an African theme they took the terrifying, fearful aspects of burning fire, dragons, and vicious yet frightened animals, and cradled them with angelic harmony, harps, marimbas and soothing vibrations. The journey is seemingly guided by a shaman woman who commands fear to be gone, and requests the Phoenix to rise once more through climatic anthem , while skipping to a beat that says ‘everything’s going to be alright’. 

DIY was consciously fabricated with the desired hope of giving dancers and listeners alike the opportunity to experience an odyssey through ancient and advanced united, thereby allowing to make steps approaching to the pure data of their true nature, preferences, and the magical world of the fey-folk, the life in other dimensions is not always more beneficial than ours; they, too, come with their own trials and tribulations. Packed with clicks, skips, jiggles and powerful electric guitars, to convey the need of never to fear, as a balance and a warm embrace is here. 

Fair-Ye-Well was forged with wobbles and warm sounds, drumming and documentary-type vocals that hope to inspire just how different formulated music compared with that of natural creative jamming. With electric sounds to shock the uninspired zombie into actually moving their feet to the beat, the sparks and sprites warn of a future that is in propagation with daunting consequences unless some form of traditional culture is conserved. Walking through wind tunnels, meeting African drummers once again, this cheerful piece aims to lighten the hearts of those who feel the darkness is too close for comfort.

FLOOTING GROOVES is Pearce Van Der Merwe. Born in Cape Town in 1975, he grew up in South Africa and Italy, surrounded by music. Having a varied background ranging from classical to jazz, rock and related styles, he started playing flute after hearing Jethro Tull. Groups like Ozric Tentacles and Pink Floyd opened him up to Psychedelia and that’s where his journey began!

A party in Amsterdam in 2000 changed the course of things forever, marking Pearce’s introduction to the trance scene, with its addictive and infectious grooves! Another turning point was the meeting of like-minded musicians and beings Dan Symons (a.k.a Dymons) and Ajja Leu (one half of Yab Yum) who both played instruments and laptops. The initial meeting and jamming eventually led to Pearce moving to Switzerland to join The Peaking Goddess Collective (PGC): the organic chill and psytrance band formed in 2003 by Ajja, Dymons & Master Margherita, which combines laptops and synths with live instruments: Flute, Guitar, percussion, Bass & Fx.

After his beginnings with the PGC, where his flute found the perfect niche in which to evolve, he started to participate actively in the production of the collective’s tracks. Soon, he was also producing music solo, finding his own sound and ultimately performing live: FLOOTING GROOVES! Ethnic, groovy, floaty and psychedelic, his music ranges from chill to airy progressive beats. His performances are always a success and music lovers greatly appreciate the sight of the live instrument fusing with machine production.

In the past six years, Pearce has performed live at a great deal of parties and festivals including Alien Safari and Vortex (South Africa), Eden Festival (Scotland), Tribe of Frog (UK), Antaris Project (Germany), Space Pirates’ Revolution (France), Solstice Festival  (Ruigoord, Netherlands) the renowned Boom 2006 and Boom 2008 in Portugal and Soulclipse in Turkey, both with his FLOOTING GROOVES project and with The PGC. The trance caravan has taken him to South Africa, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Croatia, Ukraine, Italy, Scotland, Spain, Israel, Portugal, England, France, Turkey, Ireland and Germany.

Since 2004, FLOOTING GROOVES has released a number of tracks on Peak, Electrik Dream, Vertigo, La Magica Boutique, Celestial Dragon, Space Tepee Music, Elestial, Moonloop and Syncronize. He has contributed to most Peak Records releases with down tempo tracks for the chill compilations as well as chill intros and outros for the night-time compilations. More releases are to come!

The FLOOTING GROOVES full-length debut album “Upsyde Downe” was released on Peak Records in 2007 and received fantastic reviews. Since then, he released two more debut albums along with his collaborative projects: “Organika” with The Peaking Goddess Collective (Peak 2007), and “Organic Space Age” with Cosmosophy (a Dymons – Flooting Grooves collaboration) (Elestial 2009). His eagerly awaited second album “Psydeburns” is scheduled for release on Peak Records in the autumn of 2009.
