Decaying Lull

A very experimental, one-off release that doesn’t quite fit into any genre. There are influences from Industrial, Hip-Hop, and IDM, but the result doesn’t quite fit into any of them.
These four tracks were made around 10 years ago, at a time when I was still exploring music production but already realizing it wasn’t for me. I never really considered myself a producer, and after this I stopped making music altogether. Still, there’s something about these strange tunes, I think it's the 'no rules' and 'in-between-genres' energy that I like and that made me want to share them now. Maybe someone out there will connect with them in their own way.

Post lockdown does not mean we need to fall back into the same patterns like we did before. This EP contains a smooth transition to a new reality. ULTRATERRENO is Tagliabue`s newest EP on the Berlin and Zurich based micro Label Lustpoderosa.
The celestial sounds from the italian producer Tagliabue is a healing process of well tempered analog synthesizers. The cure is in the mix of pre dancefloor and ambient tracks inlcuding a slow trancy chug from well known and apreciated selector AnatolianWeapons.
Tagliabue is not just inspired by the afro cosmic heritage of Beppe Loda and Daniele Baldelli, but also from post-folk, rock, prog and kraut influences of 70’s and early 80’s, passing through New Wave and Synth Pop of Gaznevada or The Stupid Set and not to forget italians rave culture of the 90s with Franceso Farfa and Marco Dionigi just to mention a few.
This very intimate EP is a meditative and transcendental journey to another world. Literally.

Ambient Animal is the guise of sama recordings founder and curator Benedikt Guschlbauer. His first outing as a solo artist, “Transcend”, shows off the artist’s long-fermenting musical vision. Gently percussive and seemingly broadcast from a place of altered states, Ambient Animal’s music is electronic ritualism, manifesting an entire dreamworld from sparse keyboards and drum machines built around live jams. Besides the high-end swirls and bubbling sound effects of tracks like ‘Docking Manoeuvre’, everything from shades of spacey Italo-disco (‘Contemplating Reality’) and ambient spinning plates of fog-laden samples (‘Jackfruit’) enters the fray, coalescing around an intimate process of adding final touches to long dormant home recordings.

“Transcend” is an album about a metamorphosis for Ambient Animal. Having spent the last 10 or so years having fun recording improvised live sessions in his home studio and often leaving them unfinished, this is the moment viennese sound tinkerer Benedikt Guschlbauer finally dotted the I’s and crossed the T’s. The vision emerging from these rudimentary analogue mixer recordings is one of an expansive sonic universe.

Unbound by genre, “Transcend” takes its strategic cues from dub, exotica, and techno, brimming with colourful synthesizer pulsations and distant distorted rhythms encased in studio flare. The music sits somewhere between the blissful floors of clubs and temples, operating as a delicate soundtrack for navigating through the ecliptic constellation of Capricornus.

As the night veiled the world in its darkness, the nocturnal creatures came out to play. Burrowing out of their secret hiding places to make mischief away from prying eyes. This was their playground, amongst the overgrown weeds and dying flowers. Here they thrived, here nobody could touch them. 

After making appearances on two compilations, one for I'm A Cliche and another for Hard Fist, Russian producer Linja takes a different approach for his debut album on Malka Tuti; a cinematic collection of compositions that could soundtrack a Yuri Norstein movie. Made sometime between 2016 and 2017, the seven tracks that make up Velvet Noise feel more like a story; abstract drum motifs and modulations are laced with squeaks, bleeps and eerie effects, building in tension as the LP unfolds.

Last from the Disco Not Disco takeover is DJ Scwabe. You may know him as one half of experimental jazz combo TAPAN. Still, Schwabe is best known as a resident DJ of 20 / 44, the modest master of dark, slow, trancey rhythms. That's what he does in this mix for Mutant Radio, featuring: Ninos Du Brasil, Anatolian Weapons, Krokakai, Khun Fluff etc.
