”Lies“ started with a very simple but catchy Juno 60 Arpeggio Bassline, which I created around 10 years ago.
 
I am an 80’s child and believe that in your early years, your subconscious mind stores a lot of first impressions and emotional moments. I listened to Roxy Music at my parents’ home when I was a kid, alongside all the great pop tracks from Icehouse to New Order, which were played on the radio.  
 
2020, when Covid started, I was locked in my studio on the island of Ibiza. I couldn’t see my little daughter, all my flights got cancelled and I had no idea when I would see her again. A few weeks later my beloved grandmother who supported me on my path with music since I was a kid passed away. I was swept up in a wave of heavy emotions and really down.
 
So, I decided to put all my emotions in the track I started so many years ago. I made a post on FB asking if anyone had any idea of a vocalist who could fit my expectations and I got introduced by my friend Luna Ibiza, to Steven Jones who was based in the UK.
 
I sent him ideas of the vocal I had in my mind. He liked it a lot and started recording and sent me the parts. Later on I got in touch with Depeche Mode’s Tour Drummer Christian Eigner, who I went to school with. He immediately liked the track and the idea, and recorded the drums for „Lies".  I added some guitars with Matthias Simoner and it took quite a while to finish the whole package.

Today, I can tell that going with the flow without any stress is the best way for producing music. Many people might be surprised as it’s (maybe) untypical for what I am known for, regarding my earlier productions like „Vamos" or "Soy Como Soy", which were heavily influenced by Afro Cuban music. I don’t want to be categorized. I want to create timeless, beautiful music with no borders. 

Music is a mission and not a competition.

Dennis Cruz delivers the landmark 300th release on Damian Lazarus’ iconic Crosstown Rebels imprint with ‘The Snake Charmer’ EP, featuring collaborations with Ian Ludvig and the label boss himself.

An artist at the height of his powers, arriving off the back of his busiest Ibiza season to date, it’s safe to say that Dennis Cruz is a man in extremely high demand within the global electronic landscape. Founder of his own labels MÜSE and CRZ, while featuring as a key member of the Solid Grooves Family, Cruz’s longstanding ties to Crosstown Rebels date back to his debut in 2018, featuring as a regular on the label and at their extensive global events from fabric London to Miami’s renowned Get Lost extravaganza since. Returning to the imprint following his excellent album ‘Roots’ in 2021, plus his recent contribution to the 20th Anniversary compilation with his remix of Pier Bucci’s ‘Hay Consuelo’, Cruz is back in emphatic fashion as he marks the 300th release in the label’s revered catalogue with his latest EP ‘The Snake Charmer’ - featuring two solo tracks alongside collaborations with fellow Crosstown signee Ian Ludvig and label founder Damian Lazarus himself.

A master of crafting rolling arrangements with subtle nuances that keep dancefloors locked in unison, the four tracks across the package see Cruz experiment even further as he showcases a global array of influences. Opening track ‘Snake Charmer’ welcomes a crisp organic percussion arrangement accented by eastern flutes through to snaking grooves and hooky female vocal samples throughout, while ‘Revolution’ welcomes an all-star cast as he links with Damian Lazarus for a heady, skippy slice of house merging hazy chords and bright stabs with vocals from contemporary Detroit nightlife icon and staple DJ Holographic.

On the flip, the Spaniard once again steps out solo and dives deep into a low-slung and playful groove on ‘Time Out’, introducing a wealth of vibrant vocals amongst blossoming melodies and soulful organ riffs, before closing the show as he joins Ian Ludvig to present an off-kilter, impactful and warping closer guided by provocative vocal snippets across ‘Pain Away’.

Quickly following up the last, instant sell-out smash, Shir Khan's infamous "Black Jukebox" series hit us with the 12th edition. Introducing anonymous project Aussteiger who gets things bouncing with the Summer house monster, "Bangbao". Lush filter sweeps, twinkling keys and powerful bass are order of the day here as the producer works his magic on one of the sunniest grooves we've heard this year. "Return" keeps that outdoor terrace flavour but plunges us deep into the twilight, tribal drums and deep electronics locking us into its hypnotic recess. Martin Lewis contributes a seriously fun and summery version of "Now That We Found Love", utilizing glorious xylophones and horns throughout the melody and letting it roll out with aplomb. Finally, we get the cheeky "Do It" edit which combines hypnotic congas with funky guitar licks and a sun-burnt, Latin energy to create a sizzling brew of hot dancefloor energy. Great stuff! @crosstownrebels welcome Tochno Techno label owner @yulianikomusic to release her first full EP, ​Paradise, ​a captivating three track EP featuring jazz bossanova vocalist @silromero and Italian talent @cioz on remix duty. The aptly named ​Es Vedra c​ an be heard as a digital bonus track.

Opening track ​"Caminando" e​ncapsulates Yulia’s inspiration from walking on the White Isle of Ibiza where she spent the last year living. The hypnotising deep house melody of swirly synth pads and Sil Romero’s beautiful dreamy vocals wash over skipping percussion in an emotive composition. Niko described how the track came together - “​I sent demos to my friend and great jazz Bossanova singer Sil Romero and told her about my emotions after Ibiza. She also loves the island and goes there every year. The words "Caminado" are from Spanish - walking around, and she says ”I feel good​!”. Cioz ​puts his own melodic stamp on the remix, creating a progressive club piece with bright keys over a reshaped bass line.
