This was the result of two crushes happening simultaneously that ended up dating each other. And a feeling that I was somehow a means to an end - used by one to get closer to the other, then discarded. I let my emotions and wishful thinking get the better of me. I now realize that Brooke was the one who felt it the hardest and wrote the bridge.

Fleetwood Mac meets Police meets Ozma. I love this track, now that I'm over it.

I've had to watch as years of my life were destroyed and I had to regroup and start again. No use dwelling on who hurt you, and what they had to say. Just keep going, never look back, and improve as a person when you can.

Debris and Ashes

As the '80s gave way to the '90s, hair metal and glam rock were on their way out, setting the stage for alternative and grunge to take over the charts. That didn't stop the once-popular rock subgenre from going out with a bang in 1991 and 1992, with a pair of heartfelt downtempo ballads in the same key. Mr. Big's "To Be with You" and Saigon Kick's "Love Is on the Way" were just begging to be mashed up, don't you agree? (I added snippets of two Y2K-era rock hits, Smash Mouth's "All Star" and Uncle Kracker's "Follow Me", because they seemed to fit pretty well.)

This mashup is dedicated to the memory of Steve Harwell, the co-founder and original lead singer of Smash Mouth. He passed away less than a week after I completed this project.

Track 4 | False Alarm

When you fall in love with someone and start making decisions to stay together at your own expense. I was struggling with Plurality and didn't realize the worst of my memories are kept by Brooke. They'd initiate a break up, I'd undo it. Repeat. 

I'm pretty proud of the instrumentation of this one, lots of harmonies and creative guitars and synths. I redid the drums at some point with the intention of redoing the whole song - but lost those files and decided to keep it as is.
