Friends since the PULP years, Jennifer Cardini and David Shaw have joined forces for a phenomenal project which will bring the dance floor walls crumbling down!
Their first encounter was at the Pulp, 10 years ago, where they spent the entire night (well almost) talking about their mutual taste for bands like Joy Division, the Smiths, Etienne Daho , Stinky Toys...to create their bonds which took a decade to actually emerge . It was the fantastic documentary “Paris is Burning”, which introduces the Voguing scene in New York in the 80’s, which inspired “In The Ballroom” and “Pepper Labeija”, the first fruit of their collaboration.

Packed to the brim with percussive deliciousness and a bouncy bassline, the track grooves into a beautiful and dreamlike break, building big momentum before hitting you with full force. 

Second up is “Tipsy”, and it becomes clear this is an A-side only EP. “Tipsy” is fun and quirky, and most of all full of attitude. Premiere | Guille Perez - Ikarius (Original Mix)

Since Biesmans made his debut on AEON last year with his “A Long Road” EP, he has continued to build a profile and musical output that is both exciting and ground breaking. So it’s with great pleasure that we welcome him back to the label for his follow up EP “Top Gun”

Biesmans has decided to showcase two subtly different versions of the title track “Top Gun”. Version 1 is a stunningly produced lo-fi disco workout with nod to 80’s synth classics. A dynamic bass line underpins a delightfully simple but effective groove and delicious melodies. Version 2 is similar in it’s approach but is perhaps a little more strident. Biesmans said “I often make several versions of a track when I’m writing and then focus in on a particular version. In this case I couldn’t decide so I figured let’s release both!'
“Dr Electric” is a more melancholy in it’s approach, with a broken beat, subtle synths and vocodered vocals taking centre stage, with almost blissful prog rock leanings in places.

Remix duties are taken up by Permanent Vacation head honcho and AEON favorite Benjamin Fröhlich and Italian duo Phunkadelica.
Both have chosen to tackle “Dr Electric” and the results are sublime. Fröhlich’s approach stays closest to the original but employs a tougher breakbeat as the foundation for his version, borrowing heavily from the synth content before delivering a driving bass line to take the track into peak time territory. Phunkadelica’s more traditional progressive house style treatment serves up a more hypnotic mix with a galloping baseline and an ever evolving layered style that draws in the listener until a breakdown delivers the spin tingling moments.

Another perfectly balanced EP from the AEON crew with something to satisfy all palates.

Biesmans - Dr. Electric (Phunkadelica Re-Interpretation)

Italian rising star Amarcord (SXDNS109) makes his debut on California-based ROAM with an Indie-Disco-Rock-infused EP, whose title – “A New Day Is Coming” – seems to state an optimistic forecast of our near future. After releasing on vital labels such as Correspondant, Ombra International, Watergate, Emerald & Doreen and Aeon, Amarcord brings three new originals including a collaboration featuring ROAM alumnus Mufti on the vocals of “The Time Is Running”. The EP also comes with a remix from label boss Jason Peters of the title track. 

The tune we chose to premiere, “Discoteca Nella Nebbia”, despite its relatively slow downtempo (110 BPM), is so energetic that your body will feel the urge to speed up the dance moves to catch on the intensity of the track. Powerful guitar riffs, upbeat drum fills and vibrant synth layers were creatively and seamlessly brought together by Amarcord in order to give birth to a unique and essential piece.

Exclusive Dominik Marz - Windpulver

Known for quite some Belters, partly with long-term affiliates David Kochs or Yannick Labbé, Augsburg creative Dominik Marz makes his (solo) debut on Scatcity with his three tracker Windpulver – a German word composition consisting of the words wind and powder. The EP's title track synonimously stands for Marz's preference of recording catchy synth-lines and tonally play around with them until they result in a homogenous composition. In the case or track at hand Dominik even works with two different synth-lines, as the firstly introduced one seems to have the task of providing the listener with deeper keys the second synth-line throws light upon the track and creates while interacting with the track's basis a charming atmosphere, which is hard to escape from as it's as intriguing as the singing of the Loreley.

Dominik Marz's EP Windpulver will be released on Scatcity on May 15th, 2020.

Just a few months after EdOne purveyed his own reinterpretation to
Ivory & Auggie’s leaden prototype, demonstrating a fine
comprehension of “Basic Rhythm,” he returns on MoBlack Records,
now alongside Martin HERRS, and INVŌKER on remix duties, with
“Tatalina.” On A side, the Spaniards delicately unfold a poignant
sojourn that wanders and diffuses the rims of isolation and
belonging. The tender, 6:28 minute aural escapade starts off with a
simple ingress, pummeled by an inquisitive bassline into a gripping
melodic procession. Tatalina escalates to a euphoric stillness
transcended by haunting piano chords, but breaks free when
intermittently disrupted by deep synthetic pulsations, evoking the
frailty of memory and vulnerability of emotion.
French rising star INVŌKER deploys his empowered rendition of the
title track, pulling a bit less feeling from emotion and a little more
feeling from sense. Tension and groove pull and reverb in this
particular tug of play, where space is dark, energy is incandescent
and the texture of sound is moist and locomotive. MB384 sits in the
juncture of memory, motion and emotion, a pursuit of that fleeting
moment that is only present in one instant, as well as an attempt to
prolong its existence through sound.
