We’re proud to unveil Paint EP by Lake Lerge, the tenth release on Fresh Beats Records and a bold step into the emotive fringes of UK electronic music. Across four originals and one remix, this deeply personal collection bridges UKG, deep house, breaks, and ambient-leaning textures, shaped by sonic nostalgia, travel, and the liberating creative process taught at LSEM’s Advanced Music Production Course.
Opener ‘Feelings’ sets the tone with skippy drums, dreamy plucks, and chopped ’90s R&B vocals that nod to both the soulful warmth of the era and the rhythmic swing of UK garage. Originally inspired by The Phantasy's My Weekend, the track morphs into something entirely its own, where Four Tet-style melodies drift in like memories at sunrise.
‘3D’ plunges into raw, groovy deep house. The chord progression walks a tightrope between melancholy and euphoria, guided by sparse vocal chops and a gritty undercurrent that demands a proper sound system.
On ‘Tell Me’, Lake Lerge fuses ethereal pads and longing vocal snippets with heavy, Overmono-inspired bass pressure. The glitch-laden second half, influenced by Ross From Friends’ Tread, adds a sense of unstable beauty; tension and release designed to mesmerise on late-night dancefloors.
‘The Road to Nuoro’ is a meditative excursion built from sample-based drums. Ambient recordings of an Italian train station swirl beneath hazy melodies, offering a nostalgic travelogue rendered in sound. It's clubby, yet contemplative, a love letter to movement and stillness.
The EP closes with a remix of ‘Feelings’ by Fresh Beats labelmate Terrifique, who slows the tempo and drapes the track in spaced-out pads and lush Balearic sensibilities. With its glistening textures and retro sweetness, it plays like a love song beamed from the '80s into today’s afterhours.
As always, Fresh Beats Records continues to champion the next wave of producers graduating from LSEM’s Advanced Music Production Course. ‘Paint EP’ is a snapshot of artistic growth, sonic curiosity, and the emotional depth that comes when producers are given space to explore.
