In April, 2020 Beat Craft has selected the Egyptian artist Omar Kayal for its debut as an imprint. Beat Craft 001, KG Mixtape, is a 22 minute mixtape of 8 original previously unreleased tracks by Omar Kayal plus a collaboration with Egyptian producer Essperx. 

Previously released on Egypt-based label ANBA, Kayal's talent emerges strongly in this mixtape where melodic lines are "heavily influenced by my Nubian origin and developed on piano scales in nights spent over Ableton", he comments. Epic choruses are mixed with breaks, drum and bass, more gloomy atmospheres and subaqeous alien synths and organs. The work reflects everyday restlessness, anxiety, stress, will to escape, and the artist's existential self-adressed question: is it worth it?

Lil Taty is Belgrade based producer and DJ who emerged on the scene during spring 2013. His music is heavily influenced by UK club music in its most sinister shape, yet manages to find its own niche among the contemporary club movement. He is a co-founder of @minoradjustments-records alongside @bolelee and founder of MURK @murkbeograd podcast - mix series which discover fresh and exciting DJs from both the local and international underground scenes. With influences ranging from Fugazi to Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Lil Taty is a man with a taste for audacious sound, which is reflected in both his DJ sets and his productions for the likes of Classical Trax, heel.zone and SEAGRAVE.

K-LONE’s Cape Cira LP is one of the prettiest records you’ll hear all year in techno or any other genre. The Wisdom Teeth boss created a verdant sonic world on that album, one where rippling beats came drenched in sun-dappled atmospheres and melodies that evoked palm trees swaying in a breeze. On this exclusive mix, @k-lone93 lets us in on some of the music that inspired the record. The mix’s first half largely eschews dancefloor pulses in favour of dreamy flushes of sound - while there are some gently danceable numbers in here from the likes of DJ Python and Duckett, the entries around them emphasise new-age-inspired textures in a manner that draws a clear line to Cape Cira. We then enter a territory of coy techno and micro-house throbs, one where Jan Jelinek’s ‘Rock In The Video Age’ sets the tone, before blissing out with pure ambiences at the mix’s close. 

"This mix is a selection of cuts from my favourite albums I was listening to around the time of writing Cape Cira, mostly the sort of stuff for listening to at home rather than the club. Planet Vortex welcomes new day. Pleasant sunshine warmed the upper layers of the world's waters and a flock of dolphins frolicked and fluttered, enjoying their serene life. The youngest suggested a competition - who would jump higher out of the water. This idea was supported by all and, having properly dispersed, they began to fly into the sky. During these game, no one noticed how anxiety was growing exponentially from the depths. And at the moment when two dolphins: one in the form of the sun, and the second, in the form of the moon were in the air, a huge whirlpool began to suck in the ocean life. By coincidence, the air currents in an incomprehensible way kept the steam above the water, preventing them from getting into the epicenter of the whirlpool, but after a few moments, the storm disappeared, as suddenly as it appeared.

Through the ancient channels of information transmission, encoded into ultrasonic signals, which are used by all marine inhabitants, the sun and the moon remained intact and managed to find out that the entire underwater world is in chaos.
Reading the signs of the underwater worlds, reef after reef, synchronizing with the currents, they moved to cold waters of Antarctica, where, as they found out, lives an ancient creature - Astrolith, who knows all the secrets and the legends of the planet.

Feelings of trepidation and at the same time primitive fear, before the meeting with the ancient, pervaded them. It became colder and colder.  Silence bound and there was no one else alive around. Echolocation signals probed everything to the smallest detail, so, here's here is the entrance to the cave.

It was difficult to understand what kind of creature appeared in front of their eyes - a huge mountain, slowly moving. They sent him a 200 kHz signal. But Astrolith possessed telepathic abilities, so the two wanderers who came to visit did not surprise him. As they swam closer, it became a voice coming from the depths of their consciousness:

- We already met once, but you dont remember it. I know why you are here and what you need. As you can see, I have a problem - one of my spheres of time and space was lost many millions of years ago, if you can return it, then I will help you. Use the time machine that built by the ancient Atlanteans. Take this sphere of clairvoyance - it will help you with search.

There was not enough air to continue the conversation - it was necessary to urgently get to the surface. The mysterious ball glowed with a pulsating, bright green light moved very quickly, therefore, they had to activate all their forces in order to have time to follow it to the sunken city.
The ruins of once mighty empire evoked mixed feelings: from greatness to rejection. A green signal led them through the rubble to the library, where ancient texts were carved into glyphs telling about the causes of the storm.
In the distant distant times, Atlantes, due to various kinds of conflicts, damaged the eco structure of the planet and now, the only way to maintain balance is to devastate other stars. Therefore, they programmed special kind of storm that appears every 500 years and attract water even from other galaxies. Although they have died long ago, its still functioning.
Having learned all this, they got out into the central hall, in the center of which was mounted a huge golden ring - it was a time machine. The green sphere activated it - the Sun and the Moon went 55 million years into the past.

Cherubic voices, sparkling drums, and drones on their way back home from an all-nighter set the scene for this compilation. 19 artists have made sonic references to the hormone that acts to regulate our wellbeing. This is the second release from a series that is musically themed on psycho-sensory states of happiness, or the lack thereof.

Profits from this release will go to the Black Cultural Archives and Raw Music Media. 2 Brixton based organisations / charities.

Lost In Space

The Milano-based project, Orion, accepted the invite to the following episode of the Harmony Rec. podcast series. Nicoló and Simone, the founding members and artists standing behind Orion Records announced their fifth EP, Clinque, a few days ago.
