With Assembler, his second full-length album, Yen Tech re emerges in ecstatic and primordial new form -- a multi-layered and interwoven work that blends futuristic production, meta-science fiction, and anthropic critique into a dizzying array of next scenarios -- a maze-like vision of our technological and exponentially oracular, full-stack future.

This imagined future becomes a construct or place in itself; one in which the record buzzes and swarms; a mechanosphere of towering melodic vocal samples and sound design - all narrated by Yen Tech's unnerving, diaristic vocals - as he channels the form of post-human techno cretin, whispering hyperbolic ASMR to no one in particular. We follow this character from one disorienting experience to the next as he recites a stream of indecipherable neologisms and hyper-descriptives, the existential residue seeping from every line. In the end though, a strange, uneasy beauty comes into focus; the metamorphic lyrics and musical euphorias revealing Assembler as a type of elegy: a wet glass reflection of the failures of what we are and were - and a jubilant celebration of what we may become.

"I imagined Assembler as a type of self imposed simulation, an invisible boundary that the narrator has to navigate out of to move forward. It was a way of looking at how we may carry the issues and failures of the past with us into the future. The psychological baggage of history, the guilt of geotrauma, the addictive melange of technology all become dealt with in this stage of acceptance and recovery. I wrote the album with this in mind, a process to find the slimy pearl of who we are" - Yen Tech

https://soundcloud.com/rami-abadir's Pause/Stutter/Uh/Repeat (GEN046) is a collection of gravity-defying tension build-ups and releases, crammed grimey patterns and blasting overdriven kicks setting the stage for an acousmatic, digital treatment of the human voice as a raw sound source. Vocal snippets, elusive traces of dialogs, ghost notes between utterances, modelled or resampled choirs all form the basis of this approach. On these tracks, high definition focused sound beams, charred high-res textures are complemented by intricate drum rolls sizzling, rushing up, bending beyond their breaking point joined by the clang of metallic, synthetic objects colliding, deforming, rupturing.

“Uh, um, ah, urgh, so, well, I mean, indeed—in everyday conversation, we stutter, pause, prolong a syllable beyond its actual length, sigh, click our tongues and lips, laugh, and repeat. Such interjections utterances and fillers may be considered superfluous to our interactions, even interrupting our flow of ideas. But, if we listen closely, we’ll find them loaded with deeper layers of meaning and affect: hesitation, thrill, discomfort, uncertainty, surprise, shyness, contemplation, or the agonizing search for meaning. 
As I extracted those recurrent utterances from supposedly coherent conversations, and the more I listened to those shards of sound in isolation, I came to the realisation that our semantic exchange has always been fragmented. This overpowering sense of fragmentation inspired a collage structure and infused the production with a deconstructed, dramatic and cinematic sound. In this sense, the collage technique in composition reflects how we construct meaning out of tiny utterances in our speech. “Pause/Stutter/Uh/Repeat” is a distillation of overlooked communication, implicit expression and elusive meaning, all of which could be reduced in a one-syllable utterance. The end result was a canvas of revisited meaning.
I submitted this work as my graduation project for the MA program “Digital Media” at the University of Arts Bremen.”

AِBADIR (Rami Abadir) is a music producer and sound designer born in Cairo, Egypt.
His work focuses on experimental, glitch and ambient music, and he's one half of the duo 0N4B. Together with the visual artists Nurah Farahat and Islam Shabana, he co-founded the audio/visual collective "Mapping Possibilities", which has been active in promoting A/V events since 2016. ABADIR is also the editor of the electronic music section of the Arabic music webzine Ma3azef, where he also contributes as a writer on critical theory, music history, reviews and interviews.
Previously solo released on Hush Hush Records, Yerevan Tapes, Kaer‘Uiks, D.M.T. Records, and through 0N4B on Kaer’Uiks, ANBA, Aural Electronics.

When all fantasies and possibilities collapse into one, when the daedalus of growth is settled we still love to build ugly sand castles ready to fall apart.
Unaware of time, we keep planning and embroiding wild and pointless stories about inner worlds while the first grains of life start coming out of our mouths.

Like a flesh clepsydra we spit silt.

Semi-improvised piano recordings became the marrow of a sludgy, emotional electronic piece: the structure and sensibility of a brilliant contemporary classical composer meet instinct, frenzy and ear shattering walls of sound from the electronic realm.

The sixteenth chapter in World Canvas’ mix series comes from Copenhagen-based experimental artist and composer Xenia Xamanek. Having released under prolific Danish imprints such as Anyines and OUMPHFF, Xamanek has crafted an adventurous approach to composition and songwriting. 
On their mix for World Canvas, Xamanek presents songs from various different fields ranging from experimental hiphop to dembow-inspired rhythmical explorations.

With a background in playing jazz and formative years of playing saxophone in a live band, Prague-based Ursula Sereghy stepped out of the hustle to focus, all while becoming a regular at the local Synth Library. A space where she found the support of the musically and politically like-minded and could nourish her newfound passion for experimenting with machines and exploring the limitless possibilities of sound design. An extensive period of voluntary detachment from everyday life during the pandemic gave rise to the stunningly confident debut album 'OK Box' fabricated by this dark horse of a producer.

Opening 'OK Box' reveals a truly multifarious microcosm. On her very first musical output, besides manipulated field recordings and widely used granular synthesis, Ursula draws wisely from her past musical practice as acoustic or synthesized samples of jazz instruments become the furtive common denominator of the record's sonic narrative. Circulation of the breath among the instruments chambers substitutes the streams of city dwellers flowing through the cramped city environment. With Ursula's entangled compositions, she creates the representation of revealing and embracing the intuitive connections of the experiences and thoughts with their mental and physical surroundings, at times leading the listener to melancholic placements, followed by moments of mischievous clarity and rational sentiment. But essentially, the longplay is a friendly ride following unusual mental maps and broadening the borders of the very cartographical ones, all with inconspicuous sideroad peeks of cheeky little creatures, still surveillance by destiny-bending spirits, and oversaturation of out-there emotional associations. Hang in there, you little civilians and slimy slugs alike. To cut a long story short - 'OK Box' houses a lively collection of warm-hearted and witty jams honoring the nature of reasonable escapism.

CLMxGUN is happy to present Chain of Whispers, a two-fold EP exploring further collaborative production processes. Like a murmur in the wind, a secret being delivered from ear to ear, it is born from a playful approach to sound manipulation and its transformation when passed from one hand to another. An embodiment of how music can be altered by each and every contribution.

Through a defined set of constraints based on the Telephone game, the concept is simple : each successive track is a remix of the previous one, and the contributors could not hear what was done before them. So on and so forth. A continuous cycle of appropriation and re-interpretation.

From this experiment resulted two 7-track EPs, two chains which gathered 11 artists, each with their own identity and their own input. With each new link in the chain, the sound mutates, speeds up or slows down - some of its elements are exacerbated, while others are concealed or juxtaposed to new ones. 

The first chain welcomes Désiré, HeedLess, indigoblue, Lithe, migu, and SNKLS. It starts from soothing bells and angelic voices to end up with rhythmic patterns and sharp impacts. A journey through a collective world with its own soundscapes and wonders.
