It's the first episode of 2020, welcome to number 11. My guest in this month show is Javier Bähr. We know each other for a couple of years now and I always liked his way of djing and his music selection. His mix was recorded in Munich, where he used to live for six years now. This set is an attempt at expressing in a DJ mix the connection that we have with the earth. How were are part of it, and it is part of us. The connections which we have lost. And the lack of respect we pay indigenous peoples connection with the earth. And that the world would be a better place for all if we renewed these ideas. Ultimately we are all the same energy vibrating together creating everything there is. Ambitious I know, however this was on my mind when I crafted this set.

2. Coffee, Tea or Alcohol?
Coffee - though if you’re talking instant, I’ll pass. I’ve lately had to temper my caffeine intake; finding great organic decaf coffee beans has helped, but I have also developed a renewed appreciation for pots of herbal tea, most varieties (except chamomile - bleugh ;)*, in many combos... As for alcohol: having, by my early-mid-40s, drunk enough for three or four lifetimes, I now no longer drink booze (I know, huh? :)*. It’s not a hard “no”; I’ll have the occasional vodka-cranberry / Moscow Mule / Frangelico on ice with lime / etc. whilst working at Machine (for instance) but the last time that happened, well... ;/*

3. Sleep in or get up early?
Definitely the former; in fact, I sleep in so hard I’m basically noctural. And I’ve been that way since I was a kid. It’s not that I don’t like mornings; I do, and (one reason) I love our dance music culture (is) for the opportunity it affords to see the sunrise after staying up all night!

4. Favourite Sunday afternoon listening album
Techno (any). Or footy replays xD*

5. What art movement describes you best?
Hmmm, maybe Fauvism? For the colour and whimsy...

6. Opera, Country, Folk or Black Death Metal?
After techno, I like all those almost equally; metal probably wins (being most like techno! ;P*) \nn/-

7. Tell us something no one knows about you
You know, I can’t think of a single thing about myself that isn’t known by at least one other person... If I was a book, I’d be open ;o*

Juan Tellez  :: 7 quick lockdown questions

1. Action, Drama, Romance or Documentary movie? 
I’m generally a big fan of non-English film that challenges one’s sense of reality or perspective. That said, I’ve been watching a number of documentaries recently on Indigenous Australian issues that have been massively educational for this white New Zealander. In that vein, I recommend: Gurrumul; The Final Quarter; Westwind: Djalu’s Legacy; and, Murundak: Songs of Freedom.    

2. Coffee, Tea or Alcohol? 
Coffee: Long Black generally in the morning.
Tea: Most teas and constantly consumed through the day.
Alcohol: Red Wine (Pinot Noir especially), Espresso Martini, Vodka/Lime/Soda
Special shout out goes to my soulmate beverage Club Mate X

3. Sleep in or get up early 
As a night owl, it’s a sleep-in without question.

4. Favourite Sunday afternoon listening album

5. What art movement describes you the best?
My Father was an artist influenced by Cubism and Surrealism and while I resonate with both of those movements, I’d have to say that it’s an artist that best represents myself and that is Hieronymus Bosch. My brain is very much ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’ haha! 

6. Opera, Country, Folk or Black Death Metal
I’d tend towards Folk/Black Death Metal. Very much looking forward to seeing Chelsea Wolfe and Emma Ruth Rundle live once the pandemic settles down!  

7. Tell us something no one knows about you?
For digital music listening through my computer, I prefer using foobar2000 to VLC
