MACHINE Stream series

Sydney's Albert Chiovenda challenges himself and the listener to immerse themselves in unusual sonic landscapes that slingshot the listener into abstract worlds full of wonder, mystery and self discovery. He believes music is about connecting and invites the listener to challenge themselves to look beyond the music to where the music takes you...the inner self that dwells within... This is music for the mind, as it works on many levels, consciously & subconsciously.

Artists featured in this mix include: Susumu Yokota, Sleeparchive, Robert Rich, Scanner, Steve Roach, Vidna Obmana, Thomas Köner, Inigo Kennedy, Robert Fripp, Jeffrey Fayman

Growing up in the 90's Albert Chiovenda was lucky to exposed to all the crazy Detroit, Dutch & German Techno that was coming out during that era…

Albert has been a playing at events such as 10th Planet, Jungle Punks, Acid Faction, Deep Space, Fuzz Box, Strange Signals, Anomaly, and the infamous Trench events, Machine and Bunker in Melbourne.  The journey started in 1992 when I was sent to Rome, Italy. “I was living in Sydney when I was younger when my parents sent me overseas - I got totally schooled when I was there in the early 90's.. musically & culturally.” It was here that the seeds of what was to be Albert was born and the young Chiovenda, only 17 in 1992, experienced the burgeoning sound of European techno. “All the raves I went to were quite big it was pretty crazy, I was quite young so it was all new to me, so many radio stations played techno 24/7.

His love of ambient music is pronounced in his sets with citing influences in Robert Rich, Steve Roach, Brian Eno, Thomas Köner, Phillip Glass & Steve Reich. Combine this with his techno heroes Stanislav Tolkachev, Inigo Kennedy, Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, Jay Denham, Female, Regis, Claude Young, Ben Sims, Surgeon, James Ruskin & Developer and you have a performer that redefines the notion of DJ as party room hero, to DJ as cognitive musical therapist

Albert has collaborated with Stanislav Tolkachev and has releases on various labels including Granulart Recordings, Hayes Collective, Evod Music ,SRIE, DVNTT, Music From Exo-Planet with plans for future releases.

1. Action, Drama, Romance or Documentary movie?
- Nothing beats a good action flick IMO.
2. Coffee, Tea or Alcohol? 
- Coffee in the morning, black coffee straight outta the pot. Then Beers in the evening, of the rich and fulfilling kind.
3. Sleep in or get up early 
- I used to sleep in, but time and family have made me a 5.30am guy. 
4. Favourite Sunday afternoon listening album
- I listen to hip hop most days, currently really digging on Black Thought’s new album, but Sunday arvo is usually reserved for music with the family as dictated by the youngest member, and my son is going through a Metallica phase. I’m alright with it.
5. What art movement describes you the best?
- I would say, Vorticism.
6 Opera, Country, Folk or Black Death Metal 
- hmmm tough one. In a pinch I’d take Black Death Metal over the others though, for obvious reasons.
7. Tell us something no one knows about you.
-I played the flute in high school.
