‘Velocity’ is the third album from MachineCode, following hot on the heels of 2013’s seminal ‘Under The Sun’ and continuing where its predecessor left off, taking up a position outside currently definable sub- genres. 12 tracks deep this time (including remixes from Mindscape and The Sect), the duo’s classic D&B sensibilities are well-evidenced, with rugged breaks, deep basslines and elegant pads the order of the day. Yet every element has received the unique and immediately identifiable MachineCode treatment, resulting in an album that pushes boundaries, but does so with a maturity and depth all too frequently lacking in today’s bass music scene. Moving seamlessly from brooding, percussive-led tribal pieces - through intricately-crafted, edit-heavy workouts and stepping, ‘80s-influenced neuro - to straight up dancefloor killers, ‘Velocity’ covers many angles. MachineCode prove they are more than adept at each - every track is infused with soul and their unmistakeable robotic funk, culminating in an album interesting and varied enough to sustain repeated home listening, whilst also satisfying even the most demanding of dancefloors.

Notequal - Fractal

Current Value's remix of Mean Teeth's track "Erosion" from their "Bring Back the Funk Remixed: Part 3" album on Cause4Concern Recordings is a masterclass in dark, intense drum and bass. Current Value's signature neurofunk style shines through, transforming the original track with fierce, intricate drum patterns and relentless basslines. With this next mix in the Tech Affect series, I want to highlight that the track selection isn’t based on popularity — quite the opposite. It’s made up of tracks that, in my opinion, are often overlooked and definitely deserve more attention. The overall selection leans towards a darker and more technical vibe, which might appeal to a more discerning group of listeners.

If you’re into the technical side of drum and bass with a focus on sound detail, this mix definitely won’t disappoint.


Dalším mixem ze série Tech Affect bych chtěl poukázat na to, že obsah tracků je především vybraný ne podle oblíbenosti, naopak podle tracků, o kterých se podle mě moc neví a které si určitě zaslouží více pozornosti. Selekce je celkově temná a technická. Tahle fakta by mohla být pro náročnější skupinu posluchačů přitažlivá. 

Pokud tě zajímá technická stránka drum and bassu s důrazem na zvukový detail, tenhle mix tě rozhodně neurazí.
