Nearly two decades after the release of his classic debut, West Coast stalwart Ras Kass returns to 'Soul On Ice' for a two-part follow-up album led by tough-as-nails lead single “Downward Spiral.” It boasts neck-snapping production by UK’s ILLinformed, and a series of grimy features from Freddie Foxxx and Onyx’s Fredro Starr and Sticky Fingaz.

With slick references to Killer Mike, Conrad Murray (the doctor who killed Michael Jackson), artist Dorian Gray, and wack trend-hopping rappers, Ras steals the show here with his attention-commanding opening verse before passing the mic to his talented collaborators. Each emcee offers gritty, raw, and timeless rhymes that ultimately point directly back to the hook’s message of flushing all the bullsh*t directly down the sh*tter like it deserves.

As an artist there isn't a greater feeling in the world than walking into a Best Buy and picking up an album with your name on it.  This album was the 1st time I could do that as an artist vs. as an A&R.  

The origins of this album date back to November 3, 2007, my 26th Birthday. Killah Priest  and I made our way to Indianapolis from California for my annual M-Eighty bday bash and the next day we recorded a few tracks that would lay the foundation for the Almighty album. After recruiting Bronze Nazareth, C-Rayz Walz, Son One, and 5-star we had the group infrastructure and I spent the next 8 months building the album (features, producers, recording sessions) as I traveled all over the USA including California. New York, Chicago, Detroit, Texas, Indianapolis, Virginia, and Atlanta during the making of this album. 

We signed with Babygrande records and the album was released in the summer of '08 with "Handle the Heights" taking the #1 position on the UGHH Top 40 charts & "Obey" feat. Planet Asia topping out at #17 on the CMJ's. 

All and all, all personal bias to the side, this album was one of the best HIP-HOP albums of 2008!

This was HUGE for me coming right off the success of ALMIGHTY. Finally, M-Eighty working on a member of the Wu-Tang Clan's album after my extensive work with Killah Priest, Bronze Nazareth, and the likes.  "Alphabets" displays the lyrical dexterity and grimy story telling from the GZA I admire. 

Depending on when and where you bought this album you may or may not have a copped a copy that has my name in the credits. See around this time Babygrande and Dreddy Kruger (Think Differently) were at odds over certain monies owed or yet to be paid, scheduling etc and Babygrande had made a very very SIZEABLE offer for M-Eighty to step in in lieu of Dreddy and deliver some very valuable products their way.  As a loyal person, I told Dreddy of this and instead of him thanking me for informing him he lost his cool and didn't view my loyalty in the same light as he felt the student was beginning to out grow the teacher for Babygrande to make such a prominent offer for me to carry on the TDMG brand under their wing without Dreddy.  

From that day forth, Dreddy and I haven't worked on a single project together. Dreddy has since worked alongside Folk & Stress & the 67 Mob and the student definitely became the new Master as my works to follow included releases from Canibus, Keith Murray, Timbo King, Kurupt, and many more! 

Tracks / features recorded for this album that didn't make the final product included: Killah Priest, Sean Price, and Mos Def which time didnt permit for.

OK, so while we are all waiting on "Life Is Good", still full of optimism that it's gonna be "God's Son 2" NOT "Nastradamus 2", let's not just play to death "Nasty" and "The Don" but instead re-visit Elzhi's amazing homage to Nasir Jones's classic debut. The "Elmatic" project finds the ex-Slum Village emcee and Detroit resident creating new songs out of Nas’s original titles from "Illmatic" while rapping over the Will Sessions Band’s interpretation of the original beats. Sounds complicated? It couldn't be simpler. Pure niceness!
