"Streets of Rage" is a definitive classic that sports one of the most memorable soundtracks in video game history, thanks to Yuzo Koshiro. It's an eclectic mix of house, trance and breakbeat that fits perfectly with the goings-on of the game. However, Koshiro was working within the constraints of a 16-bit cartridge-based console, which meant sacrifices had to be made. 

I wanted to further flesh out the songs on this soundtrack with my signature expansions, which are entirely new additions to the song in order to make them longer and broader in scope. This is my take on what Yuzo Koshiro would have done with more time, better hardware, and higher storage capacity. "Streets of Rage 2" is a beat em up 16-bit classic for many reasons, particularly the scorching-hot soundtrack by master composers Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima. It's a mixture of hard-hitting techno, house and big beat thrown into a cocktail and cranked out to sonic perfection, but...it was working within the confines of a 16-bit cartridge-based console.

I wanted to further flesh out the songs on this soundtrack with my signature expansions, which are entirely new additions to the song in order to make them longer and broader in scope. Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima pulled double duty for the "Streets of Rage 3" soundtrack, and it shows. This extremely divisive soundtrack hit unprepared gamers and SOR fans like a 2x4 when it first released, but over the years, it has grown its appreciative fan base.

When I first began expanding and enhancing the "Streets of Rage" soundtracks, I was not particularly enthusiastic about tackling the third game. However, after biting the bullet, I came to enjoy the project immensely, and it's the one I'm most proud of. The sheer chaos of the soundtrack gave me room to either capitalize, or deviate from the source material in a way that, in my humble opinion, just works. 

My signature expansions are new additions to the songs in order to make them longer, and broader in scope. This is my take on what Koshiro and Kawashima would have done with more time, better hardware, and higher storage capacity. As always, EVERY song in the soundtrack has been painstakingly recreated from the ground up, note-for-note. NO sampling, NO rips, NO stems.

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 6/23🔥 - The previous versions of "Revenge Of Mr. X" sounded pretty good, but for this one, I needed to bring my AAA game. I believe it's never sounded better, especially with the mixture of heavy metal rhythm and twin lead guitars to bring out the menace and mayhem of Yuzo Koshiro's original composition. The song also pays tribute to "Big Boss" from Streets of Rage 1, with an identical ending passage to link the two games together.

Revenge Of Mr. X (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE 2

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 23/23🔥 - The FINAL CRASH edition of my Streets of Rage soundtracks is now complete, culminating with the third game in the franchise. This frantic, chaotic and psychotic mix of breakbeat, techno and hardcore originally came courtesy of sonic geniuses Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima. My job was to rewrite every song from scratch, note-for-note, and expand on the original songs, fleshing them out with entirely new sections. When I originally began this project years ago, I thought SOR3 would be my least-favorite soundtrack to work on. As it turns out, it was the most challenging, the most rewarding, and the one I'm most proud of. Please enjoy.

Spinning Machine (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE 3

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 23/23🔥 - "Fuze" was the first song in SOR3 that signified a dramatic departure from the first two games. This soundtrack would be hardcore, and Motohiro Kawashima brought the goods. For this song, I wanted to build an expansion onto it that felt completely natural and logical, and I wanted the listener to miss the transition entirely. The objective? To create a sense that this is the definitive fleshed out version of the song. It's my take, and I hope Kawashima-san enjoys it, if he ever listens to it.

Fuze (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE 3

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 23/23🔥 - When developing the music for Streets of Rage 3, a technique was used to artificially create randomized sequences that could not otherwise be dreamt up by the human mind.  Cycle I is a perfect example of the chaotic heavy industrial techno approach the game took, and it was a challenge to flesh this one out. Less turned out to be more, as any significant deviation would have ruined the track altogether. Great job by Motohiro Kawashima on the original composition.

Cycle I (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE 3

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 23/23🔥 - This is one of the more accessible and traditional tracks in the Streets of Rage 3 soundtrack, but it's still a gritty number that required a "less is more" approach.  I've written a brand new middle section with a more kinetic pace, and a few surprises designed to maintain the authenticity of this song, without changing too much. Happy with how it turned out.

The Poets II (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE 3

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 23/23🔥 - Dub Slash is a menacing track with a lot of abstract notes and alarming twists, so this expanded version is meant to build on that, while bringing a brief period of cohesion to the song, before it all "falls apart" again.  This was a fun track to do, and I'm happy to have cleaned it up more for the last edition.

Dub Slash (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE 3

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 23/23🔥 - "Boss" is deservedly self-explanatory, and sums up the frantic aggression of Streets of Rage 3 quite well. Like all the songs in the soundtrack, there's plenty of room to expand, and I had a lot of fun getting creative with this one. However, the main rhythm and hook is always the central focus, constantly circling back to it, while adding some more menace and power to the original composition.

Boss (Expanded & Enhanced)- STREETS OF RAGE 3

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 23/23🔥 - "Robo X" is a semi-boss track that unfortunately didn't get a lot of attention in the original game. It's a simple, straightforward song with odd time signatures that loops very fast, leaving very little material to draw from. I decided to just go with my instinct to construct a middle section, while blending new parts with existing material to create a more fleshed out version. It's also worth noting that I incorrectly titled this song "Mr. X," which is incorrect. That was now been fixed.

🥷🥷🥷Shinobi fans, unite! After years of setbacks and practice, the time has come to kick off a brand new project - "REVENGE OF SHINOBI." I'm starting out with 'Opening,' the main title which is drastically short, and was never meant to be a full-fledged song........

......until NOW, that is. My rework of 'Opening' features an entirely new fleshed out expansion complete with mystically-tinted atmosphere, courtesy of the Nagoya Harp, the Shakuhachi, and the traditional Koto. This soundtrack will attempt to inject more Japanese authenticity (or as much as a Western Gaijin can manage all on his own) into the traditional chiptune soundtrack we all know and love. This is just a taste of things to come!

🥷🥷🥷I've been itching to get back to "The Shinobi" as a gateway song to the rest of the soundtrack, and I've put a lot of effort and sweat into it to make sure it came out sounding perfect. 🥷🥷🥷This version of "Terrible Beat" is heavy on the expansion side, particularly because of how short the original is. It was meant to be fast and frantic, but I wanted to add some more meat onto the bone to beef it up. Here's my fully fleshed out rendition to give this kinetic boss theme a bit more muscle.

The expansion for "China Town" has been in my head for years, which made the compositional part quite easy. It was the balancing and perfecting processes that took up a large bulk of the time. I wanted it to feel both electronically dreamy, and traditionally Asian-inspired, with several instruments committed to that goal. You, listener, will decide if I succeeded or not. This is, to date, my most ambitious expansion, and a deeply personal one for me. It's also the one many of you were waiting for with such anticipation, which is why I went an extra few miles to make sure it sounded its best.

The long wait is finally over! It's time for another soundtrack project, and SONIC THE HEDGEHOG has taken the stage. I wanted to get this soundtrack done early for two purposes. First, many of you have been clamoring for me to tackle this project (I see you, Nikos!) and two, I wanted to use it to drive more growth to the channel. 

This soundtrack is going to come fast, as I already have all the expansions in my head, but I wanted to take time to get the Title Theme down correctly, to set the tone moving forward. This includes not only the soundtrack, but my decision to jump onto Twitter (now X, love it or hate it), and a push for more Subscribers and Patreon supporters....IF they are inclined n' kind, so to do! This is a brand new expanded and enhanced version of "The Street of Rage" from Streets of Rage 1, to commemorate the "Final Crash" releases of my Streets of Rage soundtracks. This track will also be incorporated into the F-Games fan game release of STREETS OF RAGE X, for which I am providing the full official soundtrack for. 

This is a much different take on the original theme than my previous work, the "S.O.R. Super Mix," which was originally conceptualized to be a hybrid of the main themes from the first two games. This one stands on its own, but in order to close out this massive chapter in my chiptune composing journey, I've purposely written the expansion so that it directly references "S.O.R. Super Mix," the "Good Ending" theme from Streets of Rage 3, and "You Became The Bad Guy!" from Streets of Rage 1. I love it, and I hope you do, too.

For the first time, MaestroDraven and IceFerno team up! This is a completely original co-composition featuring our collective skills and talents, as an ode to the Streets of Rage video game series we both love so much.

"Brawler's Nook" has been composed specifically for the menu section of F-Games' fantastic "Streets of Rage X" fan game (link below). As many of you know, my Expanded & Enhanced versions of the three SOR soundtracks act as the official soundtrack for the game, and both IceFerno and I thought it would be cool to make this particular song our first official collaboration. 

Working with IceFerno has been fantastic. We're two guys with a mutual love for SOR music, and the back-and-forth writing process was smooth, seamless and completely harmonious from start to finish. "Spring Yard Zone" slowed down the kinetic soundtrack of Sonic the Hedgehog with a more reserved number focusing on a chill groove. I wanted to play this up, while adding a bit more power, courtesy of my expanded section. "Labyrinth Zone" is a fun and lighthearted song that helped balance out the stress of one of Sonic the Hedgehog's most stressful levels. When the titular hero goes underwater, we're all a little bit thankful that the music is so cheery. I wanted to play that up with my expansion, which didn't deviate too far from the original. Some light trance elements are thrown in to keep the groove breezy and positive.

Scrap Brain Zone (Expanded & Enhanced) • SONIC THE HEDGEHOG

"Final Zone" is comprised of a 20 second loop that cuts off way too early in the original Sonic The Hedgehog soundtrack. Luckily, that cutoff point makes for one natural-sounding bridge point for my custom expansion, which I think integrates seamlessly into the original song. I wanted to end my work on the first Sonic game by playing up the intensity of this final boss battle with a more menacing take. 

Please note that I won't be tinkering with the ending theme, special stage, etc., as these tracks are fairly straightforward, and don't provide much in the way of room for expansions. It's time for another project, which will be announced soon!

Final Zone (Expanded & Enhanced) • SONIC THE HEDGEHOG

Thunder Force III is one of my all-time favorite side-scrolling shooter games, and I've wanted to add my own expansions onto its fantastic soundtrack for literally the past three decades at this point. Finally, the time has come. I'm kicking off this project with "The Wind Blew All Day Long," the opening theme for the game, and reference to the soundtrack's rather weird and quirky song titles. 

For this one, I wanted to take an extremely short number and really build on the momentum, until the energy levels peaked, and the whole thing crashes beautifully into the original theme. The expansions were designed as a sonic "attract mode" in my head, and fleshed out to create not just a longer song, but also a love letter to TechnoSoft, and the legions of diehard Thunder Force fans around the globe. The Wind Blew All Day Long (Expanded & Enhanced) • THUNDER FORCE III

"Back to the Fire" is the Hydra stage theme from Thunder Force III, and although it's far less intense than other tracks in the game, it's a great opener that sets the tone for what's to come. For my expansion, I wanted to "accelerate" and amplify what was already there, while still remaining true to the original sound. The result is a more menacing and intense sound that builds to an uplifting crescendo, before swooping back down to the original track for the closing minute. I had a lot of fun making this one, even if it was quite challenging and time-consuming.

Back To The Fire • Stage 1 - Hydra (Expanded & Enhanced) • THUNDER FORCE III

"Venus Fire," I believe, is the best song on the Thunder Force III soundtrack, and the one I remember the most, with it's blistering-fast BPM, machine gun tom fills and lush sci-fi synthesizer work. I wanted it to be perfect, so I took the time to painstakingly recreate this song, note-for-note, with all the subtle pitch-bending and vibrato that the original is so well known for. Next came the expansion, and I knew it had to bring the fire, while still sounding like a completely natural and logical addition to the original song. The result is, I think, a success, and whether you agree or disagree, I do hope you'll all join me on this sonic thrill ride! Let's turn up the volume and have some fun!

Venus Fire • Stage 2 - Gorgon (Expanded & Enhanced) • THUNDER FORCE III

"The Grubby Dark Blue," with its rather interesting and somewhat silly title, is one of the lighter songs on the Thunder Force III soundtrack, and while I didn't want to mess with that formula, I did want to intensify it a bit by adding a much more impactful and thrilling middle section not present in the original song. I believe this brings a much-needed boost to the intensity of the original, especially for those who have ever played this stage on Mania difficulty mode.

This particular track also represents a new paradigm shift in my mixing and mastering capabilities, thanks to a brand new professional studio that will be used for the production of my debut solo album, to be announced soon. For now, please enjoy.

Originally, this particular song was meant to blend elements of both main themes from SOR1 and SOR2, and was referred to as "The Street of Rage." However, I've now renamed it to its official SOR2 variant, "S.O.R. Super Mix," and uploaded the FINAL CRASH edition, for the ultimate in sonic clarity. I hope you enjoy.

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Oct. 25/23🔥 - "Fighting In The Street" encapsulates everything that is awesome about Streets of Rage, and I wanted to expand on its high energy and club-worthy atmosphere with a powerful expansion that builds up momentum towards a massive sonic bomb worthy of the game's skull-cracking intensity.

Fighting In The Street (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Oct. 25/23🔥 - "Attack The Barbarian" is a ruthless track that is offset by funky club dance elements pertinent to the early 1990s electronic scene. I wanted to expand on Yuzo Koshiro's aggressive boss theme with a more fleshed out take that adds to the menace of the original track, without detracting from its impact.

Attack The Barbarian (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Oct. 25/23🔥 - "Moon Beach" is one of my most favorite Streets of Rage tunes, and it's a brilliant example of Yuzo Koshiro's musical expressionism. My take on it sought to build the most naturally-sounding expansion onto the original song as possible, while building up the momentum to unbearably awesome heights. I believe I've achieved that, and I couldn't be happier with it.

Moon Beach (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Oct. 25/23🔥 - "Keep The Groovin" is a special song for me. It was the first of my expansions that felt the most natural to me in terms of progression, as if it had been there since the beginning, but never actually released. Smooth, emotional elements and instrumentation help boost the straightforward delivery of the original song, while fleshing out its depth in the process.

Keep The Groovin' (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 6/23🔥 - "Go Straight" is one of the hardest Streets of Rage songs to mix, balance and master. After years of fighting it, I've finally created a version that I feel most happy with. I don't think I'll ever get it perfect (nothing is), but this is the closest to the vision I wanted. This is one of the hardest rocking video game tunes ever created, and I'm proud to build on Yuzo Koshiro's dynamite ingenuity and imagination with my expanded sections.

Go Straight (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE 2

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 6/23🔥 - When planning for the FINAL CRASH editions of Streets of Rage 2, I realized that my original project files had been lost. So, I took the opportunity to create an entirely new version of "In The Bar" to round out the package. I think it sounds better than ever, and I'm happy with how it turned out. With smooth saxophones, flutes and funky horns, this is one jazzy, sexy rendition of a Koshiro klassic!

In The Bar (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE 2

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 6/23🔥 - "Never Return Alive" is the one track that blew everyone away when I expanded it years ago. Now, I'm happy to put out the FINAL CRASH edition of the song, with the best balancing, clarity and power to bring out the sound. With thrashing heavy metal rhythm guitars and thumping beats, I wanted to pay homage to Koshiro's work with a Boss theme to end ALL Boss themes.

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 6/23🔥 - "Spin On The Bridge" has always been a challenge to master, given how much insanity is going on inside the song. It's positively manic, with a deep sub-bass that will rip the speakers apart, making it very hard to EQ and master. I'm happy with this final edition of my expanded and enhanced version, and I hope you all get in the spirit of the game, especially when you play Streets of Rage X by F-Games, where I provide the official soundtrack.

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 6/23🔥 - "Ready Funk" is a fun little tune, and I always loved the quirky expansion I built onto the original song. Nothing much has changed here, except a much cleaner, wider and vibrant sonic mix. Fitting for the final release.

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 6/23🔥 - I was very, very happy with the Gold Edition of "Dreamer" that I did a little over a year ago. However, I'm now replacing it with the FINAL CRASH edition, which is the way it was meant to be heard. I'm so pleased with the emotion, the power, the sheer energy of the expansion I built onto Koshiro's landmark original. He provided the inspiration. I just let it flow. This, without a doubt, is the song I would like to dedicate most to him.

Dreamer (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE 2

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 6/23🔥 - "Alien Power" was a song I was mostly happy with, but I wanted to get it just right for the FINAL CRASH edition. So, a lot of careful critiquing, back-and-forth, full track analyzation to properly EQ, balance and master this baby, complete with wicked heavy metal guitars in tow with a much nicer and smoother balance. Hope you all enjoy it.

Alien Power (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE 2

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 6/23🔥 - "Under Logic" sounded great when I released the Gold Edition, but there was room for improvement. There's a lot of layers going on here, especially with the Shamen samples I added in as an homage to Yuzo Koshiro's own influence. The result is a thumping, rollicking, high-energy hit n' run that I am so proud of! Enjoy this ultimate version, and my expansion.

Under Logic (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE 2

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 6/23🔥 - Not much to do for "Too Deep" aside from the standard EQing and remastering in preparation for the FINAL CRASH release. I've always been happy with this song. Now it just sounds all the more better!

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 6/23🔥 - I was never happy with the last release of "Slow Moon," which I felt was unbalanced in a few places. The song lacked the emotion and heart of Yuzo Koshiro's original, and my expansion felt flat as a result. This time, I've brought out all the feels for this smooth, beautiful and haunting song. This is the ultimate version that I wanted to release.

Slow Moon (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE 2

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 6/23🔥 - "Wave 131" is one of the expanded and enhanced SOR songs that I'm most proud of. I've always loved how the energy flows in the expansion, building off the original song. This time, the EQing and remastering I did for the FINAL CRASH edition simply fleshes it out more. This is a song that begs to be cranked to high volumes!

Wave 131 (Expanded & Enhanced) - STREETS OF RAGE 2

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 6/23🔥 - There was always something missing in each and every previous version of "Back To The Industry" that I did. Either the mix was lacking, the expansion fell flat, or there wasn't enough power in the song. This FINAL CRASH edition rectifies that with a much more powerful and energetic expansion that builds momentum until it circles back to the original song. This, right here, is how it should have been. Better late than never!

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 6/23🔥 - The last release of "Expander" I did failed to produce a worthy mix. I'm glad to finally rectify that in order to pay correct homage to Motohiro Kawashima's frantic, crazy and awesome creation. The expansion I built for this song is one I'm incredibly proud of, and I think it sounds so natural against Kawashima's arrangement. Purely subjective, of course!

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Nov. 6/23🔥 - The last version of "Max Man" I put out for the Gold Edition releases contained flaws that I was never happy with. I wanted this FINAL CRASH version to be the most powerful and correct of all. That took lots of listening, tweaking and balancing in order to get right. I absolutely adore how thrilling this version sounds, especially with the expanded section I built onto Motohiro Kawashima's original track. I feel it all fits, and perfectly fleshes out the song past the limitations of a Sega Genesis cartridge.
