Jauge returns to the Vietnam-based imprint Magic Box Engine with a three-tracker showing off his nuanced talent for the art of subtle bangers.

‘D.A.S’ gets us started with spacey layers of delays drizzled over a moving conveyor of percussion before opening up to become a cowbell-focused groover.

'Jelly Beans' starts zesty, fruity, and ethereal before surprising you with a sour and effervescent bassline straight from 1985 - one to leave the crowd hungry for more.

'Space Roulette' rounds off the EP with a leftfield exploration of the most cosmic depths of interstellar dance music. Alien robot dialogue scatters about as drums scheme and find a way to fall into place but never in a way anyone would expect.

Friend began his journey as a music journalist in 2010 founding @psymedia before taking up DJing 2017. In 2018 he moved from South Africa to Vietnam and quickly established himself as a formidable DJ and promoter in the region. From sandy beaches down south to mystical caves up north, Friend played at many reputable clubs, festivals and tropical jungle raves such as Studio Adventure, Savage, Retreat (Equation), We Groove and Equinox Festival. His creatively curated 'This Is' club nights and prolific sunrise afterparties in Hanoi under his humble record label @magicboxengine also played a pivotal role in shaping the city's underground music scene.

Since returning to Cape Town in 2021, Friend has performed at renowned festivals and prolific venues such as Wolfkop Weekender, Bazique, Habitat, Into The Wild, Afrikaburn, Origin Festival and Modular Club. Often eclectic, sometimes obscure, always tasteful - Friend's forever evolving sound is heavily influenced by his nomadic travels in SE Asia, South America and Europe. Never shy to switch up the genre or tempo, his versatile approach sees him blending elements of ambient, house, minimal, techno, electro and breakbeats spanning both new school and old.
