In The Desert

In creating this orchestral piece I wanted to use elements of conflict and drama, and drew on an experience from my past. When I was a teenager, my extended family was torn apart by a disagreement between my Mother and her best friend. The breakup sent shockwaves through the generations and caused many battles between individuals, rupturing relationships that were once harmonious and supportive. The conflict was a deep learning experience for me, and writing this piece was a way of processing the trauma of those years.

I'm sitting by the window on a mild winter morning. I have a warm cup of tea in my hand and wait for the sun to rise. In the backyard already work the early shift. I do not envy them. Then... a first glowing sunbeam. The morning fog lifts and gives the view into an imaginary future...

Ich sitze am Fenster, an einem milden Wintermorgen. Ich hab eine warme Tasse Tee in der Hand und warte auf den Sonnenaufgang. Im Hinterhof arbeiten schon die Frühschicht. Ich beneide sie nicht. Dann... ein ersten glühender Sonnenstrahl. Der Morgennebel lichtet sich und gibt den Blick frei in eine imaginäre Zukunft.
