Not only an outstanding producer and the creator of MANA001 but also a class A digger and DJ + head honcho of @area127, a place focused on artist collabos and rough live takes while catching the flow, the moment. Next up in our mix series is Loek Frey, out of Amsterdam, an artist operating from an elusive abyss. Immune to external constraints, the OQAD label head is paving the way for a newfound sound within contemporary electronic music. While performing either as DJ or live, during peak time or sit down - Loek never fails to channel his liminal space of frequencies, resulting in appearances at places such as De School, Ankali, and Tresor. His productional oeuvre covers infinite tempos, lengths, and moods, which he manifests through his OQAD imprint and releases on labels such as Omen Wapta.

In this mix, Loek takes on a mind tickling trip both for the mind and body. Whether it’s IDM, techno, drum-and-bass, or breakbeat, Loek manages to fuse an unmatched sonic spectrum into a distinctive aesthetic at the collision point of the organic and mechanic, with a sound design through a razor-sharp minimalistic scope.

It is with great pleasure to feature talented emerging artist Aerae for our 24th Herbarium episode. She convinces us with the great energy that her productions and mixes radiate. Trippy, tribal characteristics combined with experimental soundscapes is what we grasp from her output.

Aerae chose the plant Calea zacatechichi as inspiration for her mix.
It is a shrub found throughout Central America, especially in the highlands of Mexico. Indigenous people prepare a ritual infusion with its leaves, which resemble nettle leaves. After drinking it, one lies down and experiences the ensuing dreams which are believed to provide insights into healing current ailments.

Some words about her thoughts behind the mix : 
I have therefore imagined an entire journey of what this plant provides when consumed. From the very first seconds to the last. Passing through different states, different sensations, and encounters. Datura Stramonium is a psychoactive deliriant traditionally used in folk medicine and occult ritual. The drug induces a state of total confusion and disassociation, with users reporting not knowing where they are for days at a time. Join me on this long strange trip.

Under her former alias, she had the privilege of performing at various renowned festivals and clubs in France, such as I LOVE TECHNO (Montpellier, FR), Les Plages Electroniques (Cannes, FR), REF (Nice, FR), Kwartz Club (Nice, FR), Le Spot (Rouen, FR), and ADE (Amsterdam, NL). She has shared the stage with artists like Marcel Dettmann, Justine Perry, Ben Klock, François X, to name a few.
Her debut LP 'Percussive Reverie' released on Annulled Music, marks a turn in her production skills, which gained international support by artists like Claudio PRC, Spekki Webu, Evigt Mörker, Eric Cloutier, Laura BCR, Refracted and many more. Next up in our mix series is Innersha, hailing from Yerevan, Armenia. As an initiator in the local raving scene and a co-founder of the dk.tsk collective, her artistic development has been significantly shaped by the communal music experience. Innersha is a relatively new face to the scene, with her debut EP just last October, on Polygonias label ‘QEONE’. In the short time she has already carved her sound, and with upcoming performances at the iconic Macadam and pe:rsona festival this summer. Innersha also contributed with a track on the freshly released '8 Years of Ute' CD, which dropped this week.

For this episode, Innersha shares a live recording from her set at the Omen Wapta Weekender at Garage Noord in Amsterdam in April. The mix is a raw, heads-down excursion into hypnotic territory, full of shifting patterns, deep pulses, and high pace. Capturing the energy of a packed room in motion, the set balances intensity with restraint, showcasing Innersha’s ability to hold tension and guide a narrative across the arc of a live performance.

Before the light, there is darkness. However, we are neither against the darkness and the light. We are both light and darkness. In the frequency of light, we move towards the frequency of darkness to unite with each other. With soothing melodies, we give light to the darkness so that it can find eternal peace. This is a part of the universe where neither light and darkness can exist without each other. Part of our atmospheres is taken from the darkness of the world, which represents the light within us. Here we must transform the sound of existence with the frequency and atmosphere that exists at higher levels so that it reaches the ears of the universe.
