⚡️🔊 Our PB office doors opened 30 Years ago today - 9/10/1990! 
To celebrate we had Ultra re-record her 1994 hit "How Long" to https://soundcloud.com/david-pe-in-montilla's slamming 2020 remix of "Ultra Flava" by The Heller & Farley Project!!!  

"How Long" was originally taken from Ultra's 2nd album, 'One Woman's Insanity' and produced by the amazing Nellee Hooper and The Basement Boys. In 1994 we put out a double vinyl remix package featuring versions by Nellee, Mood II Swing and Little Louie Vega (one of the first things we did with them before "Free" and the album, Situation Critical), The Basement Boys and Farley & Heller.   

Farley & Heller's (Fire Island Mix) was immediately a club stormer and lit up the clubs both here and in the UK. Ultra was originally signed in the UK, so the singles, promo and remix focus was often with that market prioritized. UK major labels prioritized dance music. For 'One Woman's Insanity,' Ultra had been moved to the U.S. R&B department. They were desperate for her to have an 'urban' hit so that ended up influencing our A&R, single choices, etc. 

In the meantime, Heller & Farley's Fire Island mix and its instrumental dub became a DJ staple. So much so that https://soundcloud.com/peteheller and https://soundcloud.com/terryfarley requested to release it on their label. If I recall, we tried to get Warners to care that this song / mix had a continuing street buzz - particularly in the UK but it fell on deaf ears. Ultra's contract was not renewed shortly after this release. (We would go onto do the "Party Girl" Soundtrack and then sign with Strictly.)

Fast forward 25 years and suffice it to say that it's very novel and rewarding to watch the long-lasting influence of that undeniable Fire Island mix groove which makes "Ultra Flava" such an enduring classic. The new 2020 reworks from The Heller & Farley Project and @https://soundcloud.com/defectedrecords were so good and the perfect time to re-tackle this nugget lifted from Ultra's 30-year legacy in the clubs for fans and fam.
