Deep house lovers, we have a special treat for you! For the second installment of our newly launched VMTTM Podcast DJ Mix series, we are excited and proud to welcome Franck Roger as our guest DJ.

Franck has recorded a special mix featuring his own productions, all of which are yet to be released! All music that you hear in this mix will be released over the next year on Vibe Me To The Moon Records.

About Franck Roger:

Based in Paris, Franck started his career as a producer in 1999, signing with prestigious labels such as STRAIGHT UP RECORDS, MASTERS AT WORK, DEFECTED RECORDS, and many others.

His remixes for renowned artists like Roy Ayers and Blaze quickly propelled him onto the international stage.

In 2005, he founded his own label, Realtone Records, where he has promoted both emerging and established talents such as Maya Jane Coles, The Martinez Brothers, Larry Heard, Joe Claussell, and many more, thus helping to shape the musical landscape of house music. 

Franck has also recently signed a mountainous treasure trove of new material with Vibe Me To The Moon Records, many of which will be heard for the first time ever here in this podcast mix!

VMTTM Podcast 002: Franck Roger (100% Unreleased, Own Productions)

This mix was originally published by 5 Magazine Chicago as a podcast in November 2017. I recently discovered that the mix was removed at some point, so I made this original upload "public" for nostalgia purposes, because this was honestly one of the most heartfelt mixes I ever recorded.

Back story: was planning to move to Berlin on Nov 1 2017, and woke up the day before my flights feeling the need to play some music that conveyed the intense emotions I was feeling in that moment (story of my life 😅)

By the time the set was over (totally impromptu, I didn't plan anything prior to recording)... I was in shambles, tears were flowing on the mixer, but I felt a release through the music I played. Every track conveyed a message that exuded my intense emotions around leaving the city i called home for many years, and the friendships I had built along the way.

The music seemed to come to me from somewhere outside of myself... it was perhaps the closest I have ever come to connecting with pure creative energy... LOVE. 

I ended up missing that flight because I should have been focusing on packing and preparing.. but that was fate. This was the end of my life as I knew it up until that moment... that chapter was over, and  I had no idea about the madness that laid ahead.... that's what I'd call blissful oblivion....

In any event, I'm glad this moment in time was captured, and hope you all enjoy hearing it.

The story behind the mix:

"The Manhattan Projject's mix for I-Voice came at a time that's been the most intense and surreal time period in our lives. The 2-hour journey is our way of incapsulating life in this marvel of a city we live in, in 2 hours or less; while in the first hour also expresssing and telling the world an emotional story of love, heartbreak, hope and sadness all mixed together as a result of Kev's tunnel vision which overtook him in his constant pursuit of his and Chris' efforts of building Stranjjur and all of it's artists to where it is today (which is still far from where the mission shall soon take the label) .

This "tunnel vision " which helped propel Stranjjur over the past year unfortunately also nearly broke his world into pieces after several sleepless nights of crate-digging and audio editing while building his segment of the mix led to his engagement nearly being broken off. This near-miss only fueled the inspiration further, and caused the entire mix itself to take an entirely new direction of it's own.

The mix begins on a positive note and slowly bares the truth of the struggles all musicians or artists often face in the ever-present struggle to balance the world of creativity and artistry between real life and the personal relationships that also make our lives all-so-important. Despite the melancholic crescendo, the story eventually tells that love does indeed prevail and does indeed "love comes back to you, like a boomerang" as you'll hear toward the end of hour 1, in an edited version of Masomenos & Lemos' "Saint Jacut" which features dOP's Jaw on vocals.   <i> update:  not all love stories come with a Fairy Tale ending; despite hope, Kev's marriage which took place on 11/11/12 serendipitously came to an end just a few months following the podcast's debut.</i>

In the mix, Manhattan Projject tells a realtime, truthful story of the lives we embark upon each day in the best city in the world. The city of hope; miracles and the city that is and always will be an ongoing Projject of growth, prosperity, dreams and despair like. We speak to you our 2 week story in our most proficient languages: the languages of music and love.

Feel Manhattan; this is the Big Apple and its as real as we could make it , with the pressures of a wedding just weeks away, while running a rapidly growing record label, fullscale management & booking agency, while also maintaining and upholding to studio and remix obligations, interviews with press and... of course, the production of this podcast mix.

We spent a great deal of time and effort in the engineering, mixing, editing and overall composition of this mix; hour 1 was mixed by Kev Obrien and dedicated to his then fiancee (and now EX-wife) Anna; hour 2 is mixed by Chris Luzz and the set as a whole also incorporates many field recordings of the duo's daily lives in and around the Big Apple, including bits and pieces of Mayor Bloomberg's often comical press conference blurbs which occured during the recent Hurricane that unfortunately wreaked much havoc on our humble little city, that is the ever-growing and building Projject, that is: Manhattan.


Manhattan Projject:  Ibiza-Voice Podcast 11-11-12

Manhattan Projject is the production duo comprised of  NYC's @stranjjur label heads <a href="http://soundcloud.com/kev-obrien">Kev Obrien</a> and <a href="http://soundcloud.com/chrisluzz">Chris Luzz</a>

The projject was formed as an outlet for the duo's collaborations, as well as a way to utilize the sounds of NYC and incorporate the City that Never Sleeps into musical form, via the hundreds of hours of live field recordings in which they record on a daily basis during their treks and adventures through both the seediest and most upscale areas that New York City so graciously offers an extreme abundance of. The sounds and feeling of Gotham may not be thrown in your face immediately upon listening to a Manhattan Projject song, or DJ set; but by listening carefully to most of Kev and Chris' collaborative output... you'll begin hearing the sounds of New York City cleverly arranged, and often utilized in ways that are impossible to identify, such as turning a city bus' exhaust pipe into a shuffling high hat, or retuning the J-train's exit doors into a floating melody (such as was done on their Ibiza-Voice Podcast mix).

Manhattan Projject currently operates out of their Brooklyn-based studio, in the creative mecca of East Williamsburg/Bushwick -- which is located in the same hallway as artists such as M A N I K, Walker & Royce and other Brooklyn-bred artists who've become household names in recent years.

Between the two's discography, they've recorded and released EPs and remixes on labels such as their own imprint, Stranjjur; as well as Mazi's label Fresh Meat (Chicago), i Records, Mother Recordings, Loco Records, Save Room, SK Supreme and many more. Their productions have been played and supported on BBCRadio1, John Digweed's Transitions, charted by Jamie Jones; licensed to Ministry of Sound, HedKandi,,,, and all this has transpired during a time when they've released very little material. In summer 2013, the hiatus comes to an end - and Manhattan Projject will truly break ground and make it's presence known across the world.
