Test subject 1.25 @allurein of the beloved @neurocrankk collective, unearths a primordial dance between the hunter and it’s prey as they weave through an aberrant, glitching biosphere. A true narrative of survival where tension rises and falls as the hunt plays out through alien flora.

“I made the visual prompt my lock screen first and foremost, so that I’d be met with it every day. Any time I was listening to music it was right there; either to remind me to be listening for certain sounds I associated with the visual, or so that the visual would be so deeply engrained in my mind that I was always listening to music with a lens directly associated with the visual. 

I developed this sort of sci-fi story, of predator and prey that I felt came as a consequence of this relationship between the lushness of the visual; and the striking contrast of the sharp, grey, almost extra-terrestrial intrusions. Notwithstanding the embarrassment factor, it helped me create a narrative that I felt the interplay of songs could tell. 

I tried to imagine the strange sounds and animals that might arise, the ups and downs of my participation: haste, fear, exhilaration, and brief moments of tranquillity. As I said, it’s pretty embarrassing, but honestly it brought the visual to life and meant when looking for music, these were all the ways I wanted it to make me feel.

For me, the mix conveyed a story of survival in this glitched-out rainforest – a strange subsection prompting the discernment of what is artificial in an environment that was seemingly so close to a rainforest here on earth.”

Ello, I’m Jackson. Pronouns are He/Him. Residing in Eora/Sydney

Who/what currently inspires you music-wise that has nothing to do with music?

Water and light mostly 

What is your favorite party/collective where you reside and why?

Too many faves. Some heavy hitters off the top are Umami/Echo Flats/Heavenly/Community Chest. They are %100 in it for the experience. Community Chest is a joint force crew of about 7 great crews from Sydney – It’s kinda like when the power rangers come together to make that big robot fighter guy

What was your best moment at the supermarket?

They were playing Bill Withers in a Woollies once and it got me

What is your most recent favorite DJ mix and why?

Max D – Indie Rock on C- was maybe the last one that got me good. Max D only plays by Max D’s rules

Any advice to upcoming DJs/producers?

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to find the words to introduce guests who need no introduction, enter: one of Naarm’s most loved and lauded, LOIF. LOIF is a DJ, producer and underground operator who has been forging a luminescent path in uncharted, underwater territory since the release of his first EP ‘Electronic Organism’ in 2019. Since this time, LOIF has been taking us on spelunking adventures through intricate patterns of space and sound. Much like intricately woven cave systems, LOIF produces tracks with hidden complexity, space and depth. LOIF’s forthcoming EP ‘Plunge’, set for imminent release on @animalialabel has been described as an oceanic exploration. Yet unlike the vastness of the ocean, LOIF’s performances and productions are executed with laser-like precision - sharply programmed drums and abundant restraint present an intriguing contrast between minimalism and maximum impact. The result is LOIF’s deep and signature sound spanning electro, psy and dubstep which is garnering local and international label attention from @amniote.editions, @ute.rec, @indexrecords, @purespacefm and more.
