@andrew-weatherall (@rotters_golf_club) - Andrew Weatherall’s extraordinary twenty-five year career in music has been characterised by a series of unique partnerships, with twenty albums, thirty or so EPs and singles plus more than two hundred and fifty remixes under his belt. Bastion of the underground, Andrew has set up record labels, remixed in collaboration with artists including Paul Oakenfold on Happy Monday's Hallelujah and has brought a distinctive flavour to hundreds of other artists. Remixes led to a smattering of production duties.  Andrew only rarely wears the producer hat but on each occasion, from Primal Scream’s 1991 Screamadelica to 2009’s Tarot Sport by Fuck Buttons, the results are outstanding.  This year he released one album as The Woodleigh Research Facility (with Nina Walsh) and one under his own name, titled 'Convenanza' after the festival he curates each September in Carcassonne.  A remix album of the tracks from Convenanza will follow in October.

Will Saul’s Aus Music label is now into its tenth year, and with that, fittingly enough, comes its landmark 100th release. For this special occasion, the ever evolving label has put together a comprehensive 24 track quadruple vinyl, triple CD and vast digital compilation, due for release in May 2016.

Aus 100 will feature new and exclusive tracks from the boss as well as key family members Bicep, Midland, Huxley, Deetron, Nick Hoppner, Pearson Sound, Youandewan, Marquis Hawkes, Sei A, Bwana, Fold, Shenoda and Appleblim & Komon. 90% of the label artists who have ever released on Aus will contribute, and design comes from the man behind the label’s original identity, Michael Place. Not a bad achievement, then, for what actually started as a sub label of Simple, with the short term aim of putting out music from two of Saul’s friends, Fink and Lee Jones. 

Over the last decade Aus Music has never really had a certain sound, but has always operated on the more underground, bass driven end of the house spectrum. It has worked with big names and has excelled at peak time tracks, but has also helped break upcoming artists from Joy Orbison to Dusky via Midland and George Fitzgerald. As a result, it has become one of the most prominent and on point labels of the day, and is now supported by infrastructure from !K7 such is the volume of its output. 

“Never in a million years did I feel it would make 100 releases,” says boss Saul, who also admits the thing he loves most about the label its is strength in depth and how it can offer up deepest house from Cottam next to hook laden sounds from Huxley. As well as getting plays from taste making DJs and topping many sales charts and year end lists, so too has Aus picked up plenty of high profile Radio 1 support over the years. “But I still remember the proudest moment was driving to the pressing plant somewhere in surrey and collecting 1500 vinyl records of our first release,” remembers will. “My old VW Polo's suspension was creaking as I took them to the distributor in Watford!”

To accompany this release, there will be a global 10 Years Of Aus tour from April through the rest of the year. There will also be Aus curated festival stages, albums from core artists Sei A and Youandewan plus fine new addition Cassy. But that’s not all, because new material from Huxley, Trevino, FOLD, Bwana, Timothy Blake and Shenoda is also in the pipeline, and as well as that, new names will added to the Aus collective in the form of peerless Planet E alumnus and house icon Recloose. 

All in all, then, Aus Music’s tenth year is set to be its best yet.

'Welcome To My Crate' isn't your typical DJ Mix show either. The show will also be inviting special guests on each month, in a special short story/perspective segment called "Six Minute Stories." The special segment details our Dance Music Culture through the stories and experiences of the guests! It will touch on the history of our underground music, past, present and into the future.

Expect everything from real underground Deep House, early to mid 90s House, late 80s Kiss FM Mastermix classics, and Paradise Garage vibes, all the way to Acid House, Chicago House classic, and Detroit Techno!! Whatever MANIK has on vinyl is getting played- even some special shows dedicated to classic hip hop and funk/soul in the collection.

Episode 001- "In this months '6 Minute Stories' segment, we speak to my good friend- Jon Martin. Most of my NYC family know him personally, but if you haven't met this wonderful human being, he is pretty much a wealth of knowledge/stories about our beloved dance music world- with a doctorate in NYC Nightlife! It's my pleasure to bring him on as the first guest in this segment. We briefly spoke about the roots behind the changes in underground NYC nightlife over the course of the 90s, and why it really changed so drastically."

For Daniel Leseman & Junktion (Hans Peeman), successful producers on their own merits and friends since childhood, a collaboration was inevitable. The success of it of course never is, but their house sound infused with disco and a lot funk has been proven to be very infectious.

After the infamous Detroit Swindle signed them to their Heist imprint and released the booming Kill Frenzy EP their name was established firmly to quick growing broader audience. Resulting in request for Dj-sets across Europe & the America’s, with personals highlights on Glastonbury, LoveBox and Output New York.

Their first vinyl release as Fouk, on their own created Outplay Records was met with great enthusiasm, the brilliant reactions to ‘Stuff Your Dad Liked’ and ‘Cat Lady’ propelled Fouk and Outplay firmly into the scene as the ‘one to watch’. Following swiftly on, they produced a formidable remix for Lay-Far on the Swedish Local Talk Records. MANIK presents his brand new Radio Show entitled "Welcome To My Crate." In other words, 'welcome to my house.' By only selecting music from his diverse Vinyl collection, the show's eclectic dance music range showcases Chris's love for all types of music.

Episode 004- "The first episode of 2017 features Discogs in the commentary segment! If you're like me then you are on Discogs multiple times a week- hunting down rare gems and buying lots of vinyl. The second hand vinyl website has become an extraordinary encyclopedia of music compiling over 8 million titles in its database. I spoke with Liz Maddux of the Community department about why Discogs has been able to do what it has done for so long and also about their Crate Diggers series! 


Alongside house music legends Doc Martin, Fred Everything, and Seven Davis Jr, this show is aired on a monthly block entitled "Underground Sounds of America." Welcome To My Crate is the 2nd week of every month- airing every Wednesday 14:00 CET and a re run on Thursday at 3pm LA/ 6pm NY time!

A seasoned crate digger, he spends hours in record shops to find those forgotten records and hidden gems. Now residing in sunny Southern California, Chris is also a taste-maker and educator. In 2020, he started releasing dance music cuts under a brand new artist name: "Chris D106."
