CONFLICT BUREAU, hailing from the birthplace of the true house sound, CHICAGO USA, seeks to embody the writhing and mutated mass that has become of underground “house”. a disciple to the sound referred to as jakbeat, an obsessive in regards to the sounds of the hauge and all manners of subterranean Sonic’s fueled by the simple concept that HOUSE and its kin is THE sound! Born and raised a punk on the northeast coast of the us, transplanted to Chicago in the mid 2010s to find home and solace in the dark and small and gritty clubs and music spaces that once littered the scapes of the city. With an upbringing in raw genres of punk and industrial, the lean into stripped down, unadulterated drum machine music was a no brainer. And through access to the disk jocks whose prowess of the decks keep the spirit of jak alive, an obsession grew and has spilled out into the producer, dj, visual curator, deck thrasher that is CONFLICT BUREAU.

30th of April was the release party of our debut vinyl known as 'Elementa Obscura 001' for this special ocassion we invited 'Ladislav Zensor' aka 'Exhausted Modern' where he truly delivered a masterclass of heady fusion of breaks, dreamy pads, and razor-sharp polyrhythms that held the room in a hypnotic grip. With the venue packed wall to wall, it was clear this was more than just a release party.

Massive props to Krewe (Dani & Sara 🖤) for the warm hosting, to Ladislav, to RNXRX, to Cyberdom and to the entire LAUT staff, and of course, to every dancer who made the night unforgettable. Some of the tracks are old and deeply sentimental to me, but in today’s world and climate, it felt right to bring them back and play with them. 

The mix has its flaws, I know—but that’s exactly what I love about underground sound: the rawness, the emotion, the imperfection.

I enjoy exploring wonderfully bizarro melodies cling to crisped percussion, all shrouded in a smokey blanket of saturation. 

Haunting basslines, exotic resonance howls, sludgy synths drowning in the umbra, diabolical carnival organs, and stygian vocals.

Comme Des Larmes invite Sekta

SEKTA

Hot summer rain hits the cracked pavement in uneven rhythms. A neon sign flickers above a café that never seems to close, its warm white light reflected in the wet ground like a fever dream. The air smells of summer and the world hums with an easy tone, as if the city itself is holding its breath. A light flooded film noir-ish scene, that needs a soundtrack like „POOL JAMS“, the new album of INIT, the Berlin based duo, that already caused quite a stir with their albums for Hivern Discs and Optimo Music. This time, they bring their latest creations out on R.i.O. - a label, with whom they are deeply associated. Their fourth longplayer is a playful one. One that brings trip hopping feelings. That has r’n’b grace, without catering regular trademarks of the genre. Dub, trance, drone, is all there too. Yet, nothing is present in pure definition. Rather suggested, interwoven, or newly twisted in a songwriting style, that haunts and
seduces. On top the voice of Nadia D'Alò dances, steps and hums tempting to the grooves she created with her partner in crime Benedikt Frey. Together they fashioned a record, that, as INIT puts it, is „some kind of old photo from an old dry empty pool that got faded by sunlight “. A dreamy, sunny piece of song art, made for endless smoky LA freeway drives, and other adventures that seek for infinite riddance. You can dream it. You can trance it. You can’t escape it, as soon as it rotates in your dream device for sound and vision.

Following our recent news article on Kokong Festival, today we turn our attention to the festival’s inaugural sampler - a curated glimpse into the artists set to perform this weekend inside the iconic geodesic dome at Pub Stallhagen on Åland.

Spanning four tracks, the compilation brings together leading voices from the Nordic electronic music scene: FISK, the analog techno alias of Finnish producer and Elektron product specialist Daniel Troberg; the exploratory textures of Andreas Tilliander and jazz trumpeter Goran Kajfeš; the murky Baltic atmospheres of Havsmörker; and the pulsating club energy of Norwegian techno veteran Mental Overdrive.

Our pick from the sampler is the opening track 'Ilväder' by Scandinavian duo @havsmoorker. Comprising Anton Johansson and Axel Jonsson, the pair fuse field recordings, analogue synthesis, and traditional acoustic instrumentation into immersive folktronica and ambient works. Their sound conjures a sense of sensory navigation - foggy, spatial, and deeply intuitive.

Steeped in atmosphere, Ilväder is both murky and crystalline - a meditative piece that weaves mystical synth lines with effervescent percussion, blending natural elements like flute with earthy, ancient textures. The result is an experimental, downbeat track that gently leans toward the techno spectrum, while remaining rooted in introspection and place.

Havsmörker - Ilväder [KOKONG]

Hailing from Raw Culture, Anna Funk Damage returns with his third release on the Roman label, delivering a record as fierce as it is intimate. Tarantola was born out of a winter suspended between contrasting emotions – melancholy, anger, love, confusion – distilled into a sound that transforms personal fragility into collective energy. There’s no pursuit of perfection here, but rather an urgency running through the veins, taking shape across supersonic punk, wave, ambient and industrial.
Each track is an emotional fragment, a bite that leaves its mark: from the electric tension of Vivere Distaccati to the feverish rush of Trasmissione, from the rawness of Decadente to the hypnotic title track Tarantola, which embodies the beating heart of the album. Side B unfolds into more nocturnal and intimate landscapes, from Chiang Mai to the disenchanted sincerity of Lavoro Troppo, closing with a party that carries the bittersweet taste of reality.
Tarantola is a journey into the chaos of human emotions, an album that doesn’t just narrate but pulls you deep into its sonic labyrinth, giving noise back its vulnerable yet powerful soul.

He's already built up a cult following worldwide thanks to hosting a fortnightly show on Red Light Radio and getting out two solid releases on Interstellar Funk's Artificial Dance label and a more recent one on our beloved Knekelhuis. Out now: “New Atlantis”, the epic, psychedelic title track off of @Efdemin’s upcoming album out February 15, 2019 via Ostgut Ton.

Across 15 minutes, Efdemin’s experimental spirit is in full swing, with morphing drones/chords generated by a mix of Efdemin’s hurdy-gurdy and drum machines, Konrad Sprenger’s MIDI-controlled Stratocaster, Joachim Schütz’s electric guitar and Nika Son’s synthesizer – recorded live during the quartet’s Tony Conrad tribute concert in Hamburg. 

Album-wise, ‘New Atlantis’ oscillates between fast, kaleidoscopic techno, multilayered drones and acoustic instrumentation, fusing for the first time Sollmann’s deep dancefloor productions as Efdemin with his sound art and avant-garde music projects. The latter include 2017’s Harry Partch-inspired ‘Monophonie’ performance and 2018’s ‘Panama / Suez’ EP with Oren Ambarchi and Konrad Sprenger.

Sollmann took inspiration for ‘New Atlantis’ from Francis Bacon’s unfinished 17th century novel of the same name, which describes a fictional island devoted to social progress through the synthesis of art, science, technology and fashion.
