“this might be a bit of a cliché, but ever since i was little i have dreamed to work and perform in music. working on this mix made me think of the journey i had so far: from where i began to dream, to where i am today. this time was, and still is, a hectic and sad one, but it also made one thing very clear for me — and not being able to play out has made that even more clear — that i want what i have been dreaming of in the past. there is so much more to learn and explore. now that i graduated and the time has come that i can completely focus on music, it feels like the beginning of my dream.”

After a few months exploring the waters the Liquid Joy mix series is back with a mix from one of our favorite DJ's at the moment - @bethan_l ✨ 

Bethan is a DJ currently based in London, and can be regularly found playing at East London’s much loved queer venue, Dalston Superstore. Her style is not limited to one specific genre; she enjoys digging deep into her collection, playing a variety of 90s/early 2000s selections mixed with newer releases covering trance, acid, techno, breakbeat, golden era drum & bass and beyond, in order to take the listen on a journey through sonic history.

About the mix:

"This mix for Aquatic Formations traverses through downtempo electronica, atmospheric breaks and drum & bass. Most of the tracks in this mix are from vintage CD compilations (I am obsessed with the artwork & sounds from these eras) and I thought they were fitting for this lovely mix series."

Bethan is a DJ currently based in London, and can often be found playing at East London’s much loved queer venue, Dalston Superstore, where she is a resident & promoter of ‘Happy Endings’ & ‘Bodycon’. As well as Superstore, Bethan has recently played for parties such as Creatures, Tickle, Big Dyke Energy & more, and is set to make her UK festival debuts this summer. Her style is not limited to one specific genre, as she enjoys digging deep into her collection, playing a variety of 90s/early 2000s selections mixed with newer releases covering downtempo, early trance, progressive house, techno, jungle & beyond, with a constant drive to find the sublime.

«The mix is quite predictable, but as I recorded this mid June on a hot day in London, the mix mainly consists of summery house/trance tracks - it’s a quite emotional in parts, as well as camp & slightly cheesy - I hope it makes you a little bit happy»

This edition's thematic recital focuses on liquid and ambient jungle on ChewChew's mix. Rigo has opted for a set that honors the channel's name, with a selection of 100% early trance and progressive music. 2 mixes that follow on perfectly from each other, demonstrating the extent of the guests' talent;

Liquid Joy 007 has arrived onto the shores 🏝☀️

@ldazedj provides us with a mix exploring the depths of psy tinged club tracks this one defo ain’t for the faint hearted @ldazedj emerged on the scene in Birmingham with the collective Selextorhood in 2021. She holds a residency with brum night re:cord. 
Now London-based and backed with support from Rhythm Section’s future proof programme, L daze curates sets which weave through genres including prog, trance, techno and bass. She had a london debut at The Cause with Keep Hush earlier this year.

“I’m super pleased to share this mix, it’s the result of some long digging sessions and features nearly all tracks from the 90’s and 00’s, some from rare CDs.

I ended on an unreleased edit of a Medicine Drum track by my dad, he’s had a big influence on me so felt like the right place for it!”

Ahead of Transmissions from Hackney, taking place across ten venues in Hackney Wick on October 7, we headed down to the Netil studio for a day celebrating the sounds of this year's event.

With mixes from Adam Pits, DJ Teeth, DJ Wiggles, Faery, In2Stellar, Inner Zone, Jin Synth, Kit Seymour, Miro SundayMusiq, and Remove Me, the sets travelled from textural, ambient soundscapes, through to high energy trance and techno - a taste of what's to come at next month's festival.

A recording from our 2023 Halloween takeover at The Cause, in collaboration with the Foloi party crew. 

Rhythm Section Future Proof & Selextorhood artist @ldazedj delivered a fantastic journey through trance that led us deep into the night, a set that's become one of our favourite times on the dancefloor last year, alongside equally wicked sets from Aquamarine, Hannd, Heavy Skin, Kitsta and n_o.

Pioneering the next voyage is our good friend & frequent visitor to Plantera, Katie aka Lora Mipsum - a creative spirit whom we have a hoooj love & admiration for.

Co-curator of hazy Whomp's for heartfelt causes and embarking on a noble quest to unearth gems of yesteryear with her label Slush Records, we knew this care and attention to detail would run through to the voyage series. 

Showcasing the downtempo realms of their vinyl collection, Katie elegantly weaves a psychedelic excursion through blissed-out spring-time soundscapes & dream-state chillers. A timely mix of seasonal shifts through ambient rays metamorphosing into organic rhythms of the mystical, guided by the groove. 

Thank you so much for this beautifully crafted journey, Katie - spring has most definitely sprung.

We've been in touch via the label for a long time, and we're so excited to finally be sharing this mix for the series. Expect deep, dubby, and minimal grooves across various genres as we dive deep into Stangier's hour-long trip - the perfect way to ease us into the end of the week.
