chip off the ol' block

Here is a song composed in VGM Music Maker. I submitted it to the Winter Chip 9 contest on Battle of the Bits. 

It is a highly experimental Sega Genesis Chiptune that should play as it sounds through actual hardware (samples et. al.)! 

Warm yourselves this Winter with a cool Puertorican style island tune, as you walk the digital shores singing with Melodina, the lead FM vocal. 

The intro is a recording of CSM (Complex Sinuisoidal Modulation) that I made note for note in FM Drive by Aly James. It is a hidden feature of the Sega Genesis to be able to synthesize voices. It sounds just awful, but it is cool that you can make the Sega Genesis talk and sing! 

Can you figure out what Melodina is saying at the intro? 

NOTE: 
This song is 6:30m long. It does not loop like traditional shorter chiptunes. If you stop halfway, you will miss out on half of the song, and I have some cool solos at the end. 

The French accordian, singing girl voice (Melodina), vibraphone, brass sectional, bass and snare drums, are all FM Synthesized. 

The steel drums, seagulls, CSM voice, saxophone, violin, and flutes are all recorded samples.

The NES sounding PSG sounds are... well... made by the PSG channels... of course! ^-^

I heard about Chiptunes = WIN thanks to Nate Horsfall, the guy who always draws the cover art for them, and who drew the Dwelling of Duels contest banners for years. When I met him at MAGFest in early 2015, he suggested I submit stuff to this ridiculously festive album, as Prime Legacy, that I released back in 2014, featured songs that could have been perfect fits.

This is one of the 'random village' themes I had composed for ECO back when it was a game, and not a book. Small towns without their own major importance would use a different theme, depending on location. There were three for season 1. This one for Celestionese villages, https://soundcloud.com/leila-wilson-woofle/village-theme-1-still-truckin for villages in either, and a third for Dascillian villages, which I'll upload shortly.   These themes were meant to reflect the culture of each country or region. In the case of this Celestion-only village theme, it was meant to show the more medieval and Celtic influences within Celestionese culture.  While these don't have any home in the book, I'll be adding them to the album (for free) along with all the other new songs.
