Anyone who has been following the music industry the past few years knows this fact: Vinyl sales are up! And up big! In fact, sales of vinyl in 2016 reached a 25-year high as consumers young and old have found new satisfaction from embracing physical formats of music.

However, this recent trend did not happen out of thin air. Independent labels, like Helsinki imprint Common Labour, have been the influencers behind the scenes making the shift happen by implementing policies where they exclusively release material on vinyl only formats. This has been a policy at Common Labour since their start in 2013, and although I doubt the journey has been easy, the label has developed one of the strongest discographies in the underground house scene – sporting phenomenal releases from the likes of artists such as Lukas Lyrestam, Kask, Powel, and Saine.

To celebrate this 5-year journey, the Finnish collective has decided to come out with a new compilation as part of their Odd Jobs series. Aptly titled Odd Jobs Vol. 3, this record pays homage to their hand-stamped, sticker-sealed history. Consisting of 4-tracks, this release features music from the likes of Sames, pothOles, Thomas Wood, and Bolting Bits fave Nachtbraker!

For the A1, the Dutch producer has come out with his very own original Tobogo, which goes much deeper than his usual array of turbo-funked disco bangers. This song actually gives off a distinctly more techno vibe than what we’re used to, and we like it! The tension Nachtbraker is able to establish from the get-go is something to behold, and he does his best in building it up and bringing it down throughout its entirety. Our favorite moment comes in around the 2 minute mark, when he uses a simple vocal sample to cut through all the angst like butter – unleashing a groove that you can’t help but bob your head too.

Pour https://soundcloud.com/louisdauvergne l’art de manier la musique n’est pas récent. Après un double cursus jazz et classique qu’il intègre au conservatoire de Mâcon dès l’âge de 8 ans, Louis  débute la House à ses 18 ans. 

De ses productions se dégage ainsi une incroyable cohésion, nourrie de structures toujours plus complexes et maîtrisées. Ce perfectionniste signe notamment sur le premier « Various Artists » de Copie Blanche, avec son morceau « Starfish ». 

Les 4 morceaux et l’interlude de cet EP "Starfish Island" sont le reflet de la personnalité de Louis Dauvergne : originale, un brin bordélique mais toujours dans l’idée de découvrir le jazz-fusion de demain. Les jeux sur les percus et l’esprit funky qui se dégagent de l’ensemble confère à cet EP le charme d’une House portée sur les origines de la black music.

En attendant la sortie prévue fin Mars 2018, Louis a quand même pensé à nous. Un paquet caché se trouve à proximité du jardin Damia Island à Paris dans le coffre d’une “Comet”. Promis ce n’est pas de la bière…

Kousto former DJ and producer at Hoxton FM delivers lush deep and dreamy house music with a sound evoking the sea and golden sands of the Côte d'Azur. His first EP encapsulates this style with musical waves and analog sounds mingling to create playful, summertime vibes. The legendary Simbad aka SMBD has collaborated on “The Old Days” and “Seagull Chant”. Peter Pearson, chillout jazz musician from south of France has collaborated on “La Med”.

Kousto writes “Little Foot Records” aims to work with producers who are expecting something new, we want to learn and share our projects with our friends and people who share the same passion. The joy of listening to a great song is the only criteria. Producers have to feel free to create and dream to share their music with the world. Walking on sandy beaches of south of France has inspired my music and it will hopefully leave the print of a little foot that every artists wants to leave to our music world. London-based Quintessentials continues to chug along. After their 10 year anniversary and impressive 60th release, they've already gone on to release two more EPs with the third one on the way now. Stepping up to the plate this time is NY*AK. The Newcastle-based hardware guru already has an impressive resume of releases under his belt on labels such as Local Talk, Phonica's Karakul and Ninja Tune's Techinicolour imprints. The Vice EP on Quintessentials is another strong outing, featuring everything from sultry vocals on the A1 'After the Sun' to deep and raw Detroit grooves on the title track 'Vice'.

Lumberjacks in Hell has been founded in 2010. Intimate Friends followed in 2013. For some people the difference or the need for distinction between these two is quite evident but to give you an idea. Lumberjacks is always 100% for the dance floor, inspired by the music from Chicago and Detroit which is not only reflected in the Artists we release. Intimate Friends is a headier affair. Soul, Hip Hop and House are all fair game. If you check the releases next to each other both labels have a distinct sound. And maybe a certain BPM range. This isn't saying that some of the music couldn't have appeared on either label but somehow it all makes sense to me.
