2000 was the year. 

The start of a new millennium was the time to settle down to the serious business of THE FUNK and Jalapeno Records was brought to life by Elliot Ireland and Alex Rizzo better known as Skeewiff. Their quirky and exotic take on funky breaks gave Jalapeno its special flavour and attracted killer talent like the Dutch masters Kraak & Smaak. I took over running the label a couple of years after its birth and have been proud to build on what they started ever since.

Jalapeno is a label that supports artists. 

Many of our long-term acts do much of their own A&R and have the final say on exactly what they release. It’s been a formula that works. Skeewiff released 3 albums with us, ephemerals released 4 albums, The Allergies have released 4 albums, Kraak & Smaak released 5 albums and Smoove & Turrell have just dropped their 6th album (our first official UK chart Number 1). Alongside those we have had incredible albums from (deep breath...) Alexia Coley, Izo FitzRoy, Gizelle Smith, Dr Rubberfunk, Flevans, Basement Freaks, Soopasoul, Aldo Vanucci, Featurecast, Radio Trip, Quasamodo and Max Sedgley as well as numerous singles.

I’m exceptionally proud that many of these acts have chosen to stay with Jalapeno Records for such long periods of their careers. 

The evolution of the label from sample based high jinks to full band studio recordings and touring bands has been an exciting one. That’s not to say we don’t still love a dancefloor rocker made by a DJ / Producer, but there is something special about releasing and publishing great original music. You know things are going right on that front when your catalogue is sampled for a massive dance hit or selected for an iconic sync placement.

In our 20th year we are still experiencing new highs and getting excited about new music all the time. 

So to all the artists who have made the label what it is, the great people on the Jalapeno Team and the fans who have supported the label, by buying records or streaming or coming to gigs - it’s a massive cheers from me.

Following hot on the heels of the iTunes-charting ‘Blue Cover’ EP Vol.2 comes the 10th single in this highly acclaimed series… we are really pleased and excited to maintain the tradition of these EPs by offering yet another guaranteed floor-filler.

The A side - The Big Swing - comes in two versions; a radio-friendly edit and a longer club version, both featuring original vocals from Louis Armstrong’s wife and manager Lil (pictured on the sleeve), while the AA side - The Gangster Blues - tantalisingly bridges the gulf between hip-hop and electro swing with guest vocals from Geo Johnson and Chantal.

Earlier this spring Omegaman caused quite a stir releasing two back to back super fire singles, Bring Back The Funk and Gonna Be Alright, and then followed that up dropping a pair of booty shaking remix singles! To top it off, we have saved two heaters from Mr. Doris and Lakeshore Drive to wrap up the series!

Mr. Doris of Ibiza is up first and has stripped the track down to its funky core. Get ready for tambourines, steady clapping and some holy organs propelling the track. Mr. Doris brings his Balearic experience to the table here as disco elements blend with moments of deep tribal beats, gospel and funk. The remix feels almost like you are at an after hours party in Ibiza hanging with old friends and feeling it as the sun starts to rise!

The creative scene of British Columbia in Canada has given us so many great musicians, DJs, producers and vocalists and now to that list we add Lakeshore Drive. The duo doesn’t hold anything back with this remix, starting us off with some, groovy organs, funky wah guitars and horn stabs and then taking us on a glitched-out ride to the funky side. Crank up the volume and feel the bass drop, we have a feeling this one will be heard all summer long on massive festival sound systems. This remix slaps hard!

Omegaman’s funky Spring has transformed into a Summer of wicked remixes by some of the globe’s finest producers and Mr. Doris and Lakeshore Drive have wrapped up this series with a bang! X-Ray Ted continues to show why he is rising so fast, with each release building on his talent for delivering knockout grooves. This could quite possibly be his strongest release to date with Bombstrikes. 'Mirror Ballin' kicks things off on a disco groove with driving beats pushing the bass along seamlessly that cements this tracks place as dance floor gold. Next up, 'Get Into It' slows the pace down a little but still delivers just as much punch with funk hooks and clever vocal work. Rounding the pack off nicely is 'Never Gonna Let 'Em Say' with its breakbeats, guitar hooks and deep bass drops to ensure that the track hits where it is supposed to.

We love this EP and cannot wait to hear more from the Bristol based producer.

Roast Beatz & Cuttin' It Fine were very happy to take part in the second instalment of Power Raiders. 
Power Raiders is an all day DJ event where over 14 DJ's perform on Twitch for 1/2 hour, then raid the next DJ. 
Raiding is a feature on Twitch where you can send all your viewers to another streamer, meaning it was a continuous stream of music. This went on from 11am to 12:30am. That's over 12 hours of live DJ's! It featured the talents of:

Cuttin' It Fine Radio Show 11

Marc Hype began his DJ career, inspired by the late great Jam Master Jay, in 1988 and went through the several decades of hip hop with countless releases, tours and competitions like the ITF championships, which he won twice in 98 & 99. During this time he collaborated and recorded with artists like the Juice Crew legend Masta Ace, Souls Of Mischief, DJ Z-Trip, Killa Kela & Mr. Lif. Over the years his record collection and his musical mind  expanded and led him to all kinds of funky music. His selection on the decks as on production is freestyle, always with a unique groove, no matter the genre.

Jim Dunloop began to train as a classical piano player at the age of four. At his minor age he was analyzing the compositions of Gershwin and Bruback, leading to a keen interest in jazz music. He quickly developed his knowledge of the creative works of many great jazz/funk pianists such as Herbie Hancock , Bob James , Chick Corea and Adam Makiewicz.

In the year 2004 they both met in Berlin for the first time and quickly began to collaborate on shows and production. Their first vinyl releases on the infamous Milk Crate label, "The Antique Anthem", "Bombay Raw" & "Finale 74", were very successful in the worldwide dj-circuit, followed by a cover version of Babe Ruth's "The Mexican" in 2006, which was dubbed by UK's Jazzman Gerald as "the" version to have. On the remix tip they build a strong reputation with works for artists like All Good Funk Alliance, Deela or Kid Gusto.Their past tour schedule proved their ability to rock internationaly with stops allover europe as in NYC, Japan, Hong Kong, Russia, United Arabian Emirates, Israel & Australia.

The live performance of Marc Hype & Jim Dunloop is best defined as a mix of DJing, Turntablism and the highest of piano art. Together they gain 50 years of musical experience!

The Album

"Stamp Out Reality" is the musical manifest of Marc Hype & Jim Dunloop. A diverse mix of different styles which reflects their unique live concept. On the one hand you have classic hip hop joints like "Predominant" ft. the magnificent Mr. Lif or "Oh Really" ft. Queen's own Mr. Complex, on the other you might listening to Miami's Old School Funk legend Blowfly on "The Pussy Song", cuban diva Malena Perez from NYC on the latin influenced "Rare Occasion, heavy break stompers like "Wah Wah Wah"" or a funk cover version of the 80s electro classic "Al Naafiysh (The Soul)". The concept of the album is to display the diversity of the two maestros, coming from different backrounds, met inside the hip hop culture and travelleling through the paths of 21st century funk.
