c'è in giro da tempo una nuova 'musica assoluta', astratta, che sta fra la cosiddetta 'ambient music' e la 'drone music', nei pressi dei cosiddetti 'soundscape' o, meglio ancora, degli 'innerscape' .. a volte ha tratti più 'cameristici', o addirittura per strumento solista, a volte è più 'sinfonica' .. a volte usa solo sonorità 'sintetiche', a volte invece anche strumenti 'tradizionali' .. ha antecedenti illustri, sia nella cosiddetta musica 'classica', diciamo storica, sia nella 'popular music' e nel jazz .. a quella soprattutto io guardo

La estructura de Ommadawn es fantástica. La primera parte se desarrolla sobre la base de una pequeña melodía tradicional, que quizás fuera una canción infantil. Sobre esta melodía se va creando una estructura que sirve para introducir diversos pasajes en los que a menudo se intercambian melodía y acompañamiento. Aqui Mike demuestra su ya consolidado manejo del estudio de grabación como instrumento y consigue crear una música contemplativa de una belleza impresionante. En la sección final la melodía inicial sirve de nuevo para crear otro ambiente aún más hipnótico entre tambores africanos y voces femeninas que enlazan sílabas en unos versos ininteligibles. Una de las palabras que pronuncian suena como Ommadawn, y es la que da título al disco, que no tiene ningún otro significado según el propio Oldfield. El final de esta primera parte constituye un auténtico clímax, dirigido finalmente por una guitarra eléctrica hacia la paz de los tambores africanos en solitario.

My take on parts from Tubular Bells, composed by Mike Oldfield when he was about 15 years old and released in 1973. A single track without any guitar but still I hope to somehow respect the original feel.

This was the record that launched Richard Branson's Virgin empire, and the keyboard introduction was used as a soundtrack to The Exorcist movie in 1973. Mike Oldfield also played some segments during the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

The instrument is a Nord Stage 2 using a sampled Bösendorfer grand piano, and an emulated Farfisa organ with phaser.

This one really liked and puzzled me, there's a mysterious modulating sound and performance on the mellotron that  reminds me of Gregorian chant, even if the sound is no "voices" but more like a string-harmonium sound. But it evokes a bunch of ancient Greek monks on acid , recorded on an old Geloso (what won't I give to lay my hands again on my mum's old Geloso that served as my first experimental recording device when I was 6 ?) Nevermind...
