Latin was my first love, and music is my second. I've utterly fallen for those of the soulful, creative, inspiring and inciting kind. The one composed with heart and soul, the one performed with passion and aplomb. Searching for a way to express my love for and enthusiasm about music, I've found twitter is a decent and effective place to do so, yet given my wordy nature 140 characters one day simply didn't suffice to promote the music I enjoy anymore. This is how my music blog - carpe carmina - came into being (a heartfelt thank-you goes out to my favourite UK band High/Low for the encouragement to start writing about music, to my all time favourite band for so many years by now, Midnight Hour, for making me realize my affection for music and my wish to help those artists in whose talent I believe in, and to all those people who read my blog, who recommend and submit music for it). Pop and Ambient/Instrumental works.

I'm a home studio composer/songwriter/musician with poor self-marketing skills and no allegiance to a style/scene. In an earlier age, I played live music (guitar, bass, vocals) with various originals bands... but I've always been much more interested in writing+recording (or jamming with talented musicians) than playing for an audience.

I'd describe the majority of my vocal music as pop (in various subgenres) with interesting lyrics, mostly performed by myself with a few instruments+microphones and some software. I also have quite a few instrumentals (adapted chamber music, soundtrack etc) that I'll be posting.

I am a self-taught guitarist, delivering a traditional song writing style with rock, acoustic, folk, country and blues influences.

Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to listen to or comment on any of my music.

Whilst it is mostly a load of cheesy old nonsense, I have had a lot of enjoyment making all of these songs when I have time.
My vocals can be an acquired taste… (this is not my day job, just a hobby! 😂) but I hope that you can at least enjoy the musical melodical side of things.

All songs so far have been performed and recorded using a Taylor 214CE DLX on a Boss BR80 digital recorder. 

In 2024 I released “Whipped, Stripped & Almost Unplugged” which is an acoustic album of original songs. 
Further original releases have arrived and will continue to come which will be part of the next album called "The Road to Retrospection" in the near future.

I also have the pleasure of some occasional assistance from long-time friend and collaborator ©️CrackerJack on various tracks (check out his own stuff he’s pretty good!) and hope you can find a song you like out of everything that is here.

Susy is a Welsh singer songwriter, now based in the Black Country near Birmingham. She draws upon the everyday for her inspiration when writing, focusing on melodic vocal lines accompanied with simple guitar or piano as a backdrop for her voice. Susy is constantly inspired by many artists, old and new and is currently working on a variety of interesting projects, both solo and collaborative. The first of these was the release of her debut EP, Home is the Colour, out in September 2023, closely followed by her Winter EP in November, All Wrapped Up. Her debut album, The Spaces In Between, was released on September 27th 2024 and has been played on several radio stations including the Folk Show with Mark Radcliffe on BBC Radio 2 and the Welsh A List on BBC Radio Wales. It was also the featured album on  Iain Anderson’s show on BbC Radio Scotland.
