Audiovisual performance by Maryam Katan and Shaahin Peymani

White note is a live audiovisual experiment that uses footage from a documentary aiming to introduce Nudem Durak. A Kurdish female singer who was arrested sentenced to 15 years in prison by Turkish government in 2015 for promoting the Kurdish culture. This documentary was made right before her imprisonment and the subtitles are an explanation for international viewers. Despite expectations, all the human right campaigns failed to get Nudem out of prison and so voice was omitted. In 2018, a young Iranian female singer covered the same song. Her activities are unofficial and underground since basically singing as a solo female voice is forbidden in Iran. Through this direct, independent and personal empathic work she retold Nudem’s narrative after all the fuss of freedom campaigns were over. A singing which is imprisoned itself in a larger space has become the voice of another imprisoned tone.

Beyond thrilled to present Zach Hart's contribution to the CRUDE mix series.  A NYC based film maker, field recording maestro, and sci-fi lover, Hart gave us potentially the "quietest" mix yet full of minimal experimental electronics paired with eerie vocals.  Deep and strange tunes that drop you into a calm dreamy place.  And then he flips the script in the 4th act with a mix within a mix of strictly sophisticated bangers.  Get out the hi-fi system to let the stereo electronic transmissions wash over you.

CRUDE Mix 008 - Zach Hart

I’m a pianist, improviser, performer and soundartist, keen on body, gender and transdisciplinarities. I experiment objects inside  and outside the piano and explore corporealities via eutony. I’m interested in weaving sonic relations in space, installations, expanded sonic bodies, free improvisation, dance, voice. I’m part of Sonora – músicas e feminismos network, NuSom – Research Centre on Sonology of University of São Paulo and Orquestra Errante – free improvisation group.
Sou pianista, improvisadora, performer e artista sonora, atraída por corpo, gênero e transdisciplinaridades. Experimento objetos dentro e fora do piano e exploro corporalidades via eutonia. Interesso-me por tecer relações sonoras no espaço, instalações, corpos sonoros expandidos, improvisação livre, dança e feminismo. Sou parte da rede Sonora – músicas e feminismos, do NuSom – Núcleo de Pesquisas em Sonologia da Universidade de São Paulo e da Orquestra Errante, grupo de improvisação livre.
