It had been raining hard on and off all night, so I didn't feel confident leaving the microphones out to record night sounds. Around an hour before sunrise, I heard the rain beginning to die down so I set up the mics under a roof (and apparently near a drain) to record the dawn chorus. The rain pours again in the middle of the recording and I love to hear it build up then die down allowing the dawn chorus to come up again.

Fig trees are magical spots. All kinds of birds flock to eat the thousands of tiny figs growing on the branches. This tree is found in a suburban area close to Metro Manila. The neighborhood is a haven of green space in the sprawling grey city, a place for people and wildlife to enjoy.

One of my favorite recordings from a pelagic birding trip off the coast of Dunedin. There were dozens of Pintado Petrels chirping and squawking right beside the boat. You can also hear albatrosses squabbling.

The trails of the Sherbrooke Falls walk are a popular walk for locals and tourists. The tall stands of Mountain Ash and Stringybark are surrounded by lush tree ferns. In this recording you can hear the calls of Sulphur-crested Cockatoo as they fly through the rainforest, giving the area a prehistoric feel.

The wind was pretty crazy but I just had to record the sound of waves washing over the seashells at Torpedo Bay in Auckland.

I wandered around the snow play area on Mt. Ruapehu. This was also my first time playing in such thick snow ☃️ so I couldn't help but have a big smile the whooole time!
