Despite being essential to life on Earth, the magnetic field isn’t something we can actually see in itself, or ever hear. But, remarkably, scientists at the Technical University of Denmark have taken magnetic signals measured by ESA’s Swarm satellite mission and converted them into sound – and for something that protects us, the result is pretty scary.

In the early 90ies Marijn de Vries Hoogerwerff and San Proper created a series of experimental electronic musical compositions under the pseudonym Marinos Santos. Marinos Santos tried to experiment with sounds and play with genres using very limited tools and software. Sometimes resulting in (too) raw cuts, other times (over) polished phantoms, often baring the distinct mark of the contemporary sequencers, but always full of passion and dreams. 

Melofa is a good example of the two-unity of Marinos Santos, where the raw Marinos floating piano sounds meet the crispy Santos timing and rhythm.
