Disquiet Junto Project 0468: Mirror Rorrim. The Assignment: Create a new persona for yourself, and record a duet together.

Andreas likes software, ambient pads and (mostly) avoids repetition – and he has recently tried out "Quadrivium" by Giorgio Sancristoforo. Saerdna likes hardware, beats and repetition and tries to do rhythms with noises recorded out of the "Soma Ether" by Vlad Kreimer.

I found 2 unused sample recordings by these guys and helped them to put them together (admittedly: overhasty for the "Remainder Duet". (Irrelevant fun fact: The loop in Reaper runs with a bpm of 100.695…)

MY HEART

This is made from snippets of a one minute sample of ice in a glass. Though some effects are applied all sounds are included as sampled (with minor EQ in mix) and represent the original material fairly faithfully. The result is purely rhythmic and textural rather than containing any melody or harmony.

This proved quite challenging for me for two reasons. Firstly I was struggling to imagine what I could add, and that I didn't want to make the result with my additions worse than the original. In the end I did a one take improvised piano part, then added a relatively subtley rhythmic beeping in the background. I think I managed to achieve my goal of not making it worse than it was before my additions. You can download a version with the two parts hard panned left and right here:
