It was a metaphor really. He left the room. He was never coming back, but the shadow of his memory danced on the wall as the band remembered him. 

Lisbeth gave the idea form, with the dark engaging intro and Jussi built on that with his guitars, allowing Matthias and Bjarne to subtly shift the mood of the piece to capture all the facets of his memory while Mike sets a somber elegiac tone with his organ playing.

"The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner" is a poem by Randall Jarrell, about the death of a gunner in a Sperry ball turret on a World War II American bomber aircraft.
