The Empresarios are finishing off a great year where they played the Joshua Tree Music Festival, the Funk Parade in Washington, DC in addition to touring California and the East Coast. However their biggest accomplishment of 2016 was launching their own independent record label Empresarios Musica.  After releasing three remix EPs, the Empresarios are finishing strong with The Vibes Remixed album.

In addition to the twelve amazing remixes already released, The Vibes Remixed album features a few brand new exclusive remixes that cannot be found anywhere else. First up is Stereo 77's remix of Pa' La Calle and he does just that, taking it to the street!  Stereo 77 is originally from Puerto Rico and now resides in Orlando, Florida where he is a regular on the club circuit. You can hear his experience as a club DJj loud and clear with electro-synth stabs and pulsing bass throughout his future house remix.

Next up is another hot remix of Pa' La Calle, but this time by Greek production duo Funkin' Basstards who take the original in a different direction altogether. Fans of funky breaks are going to love this remix as the Funkin' Basstards beef up the original with some chunky breakbeats, break downs and heavy bass lines. This one will be a favorite with DJs and radio jockeys looking to add some fresh and funky Latin breaks to the mix.

The final new remix on this album will make you very happy, it is Bedside's tropical house remix of Alegria.  Bedside are a production duo from Miami and you can hear that South Florida vibe in their remix! They have added live instrumentation to great effect, and the horns are amazing. This deep house groove is perfect for pool parties and late nights, oozing with Miami Beach sexiness.

In addition to these three new remixes, The Vibes Remixed album includes the previously released remixes which have been making waves around the world. The list of remixers reads like a who's of who of hot producers from around the world; Lack Jemmon, Jayl Funk, Senor Griff, DJ Clairvo and Balkan Riddims from Europe, Dany F from Colombia, and Kinky Electric Noise, Bobby C Sound TV and Ursula 1000 from the USA. Calling on some hometown talent from Washington, DC you will also findremixes by Farid, Desmond Williams and MILK$.

The Empresarios story is unique, they are a group of musicians and DJs who met on the dance floors and nightclubs of Washington, DC and they have remained true to their roots with this remix album.  They have enlisted the talent of some amazing producers from around the world to reinterpret and remix their original music for the dance floor.  From house and funk to glitch-hop, dub and breaks there is something for everybody on this release and these tunes are sure to get people dancing and grooving.

Matasuna Records starts the new year 2020 with a brilliant release, featuring two contemporary tracks by Paris based Afrobeat band Batunga & The Subprimes, available for the first time on vinyl.

Batunga & The Subprimes was founded in Paris in 2009 by musicians from different backgrounds, united by the will to mix traditional African music with other elements (Latin, Jazz, Second Line and even Rock) and to bring this explosive mix on the streets & on stage. After many shows all over Europe and beyond, their first official album Man in the Field was published in 2017, followed by their EP Let dem In in late 2019. Matasuna has chosen two extraordinary cuts of these self-released albums to release them on vinyl for the first time.

Gates Of Ouantou from their EP is a great tune that sets the bar for contemporary Afrobeat and has all the ingredients for a timeless classic: the arrangement, the instrumentation and the interplay of the seven musicians in the song are excellent and will immediately draw you into its spell. A real gem and great tune!

Man in the Field on flipside is a cut of their first official album. Unusual is the use of a banjo in an Afrobeat song but not surprising that this fits in very well and also shows that classical structures can be broken up and developed in a new approach/context. Another great piece of this extraordinary band that has been operating under the radar - until now!

Batunga & The Subprimes - Man In The Field

More than two years ago "Matasuna Records" already reissued two songs of the gifted Peruvian piano master "Otto de Rojas" on a 7inch single. "El tema de Coco" is another great track on his 1976 album "Superéxitos Bailables", on which he mixed Latin with Funk, Jazz and Disco. The song was reworked by "Retro Roland Riso", known for his Bossa 70 edits and by label founder "Alex SoulBrigada", who now deliver two different versions of this tune for the dancefloor.

"Otto Raúl de Rojas Guedes" (1941-2008) was a Peruvian musician, composer, arranger, musical director of radio and television broadcasts. He's considered one of the most influential figures in Peruvian music of the 70s.

The musical landscape of Peru, especially in the musical epicentre Lima, was influenced in the 1960s by US Funk, Soul or even psychedelic Rock and merged it with Peruvian Cumbia and traditional Criolla music. The young & unknown "Otto de Rojas" started his musical career in this environment and played in various bands like "Bossa 70" and "Los Hilton's". A commercial breakthrough in his career came in the early 70s when he took over the musical direction of the TV show "Trampolín a la fama" and made a name for himself with his talent as an arranger.

He was also active as an arranger and musician for the Peruvian record company "MAG", and as a versatile and talented pianist he has participated in various recordings of different popular rock groups like "Los York's", "Traffic Sound" and others.

Otto released his first successful solo project at the age of 25 in 1976. His songs "Al Ritmo Del Bump-Bump", a cover version of the US hit "Soulful Strut" by "Young-Holt Unlimited", and the song "Choca Las Caderas" are considered one of his greatest successes and represent for many the best songs of Otto de Rojas. In the following years he recorded more albums and was often to be found on the stages of Lima.

In 2008 Otto de Rojas died tragically and much too early. With him, the Peruvian music world lost an unsung icon. However, his music will live on and keep the memory of this exceptional talent alive.

"Roland Retro Riso's" Al-Ritmo Rework on the A-side puts an impressive percussive rhythm layer over the original and makes it to an inimitable funky groover for the dance floor.

The "SoulBigada" Edit on the B-side transforms the song into a deep disco-funk banger, focusing on the deep rolling bassline, funky wah-wah guitars, brass and the virtuoso piano playing of Otto de Rojas, giving the song the necessary pressure.

Don't know about anyone else but I'm getting more disillusioned with SoundCloud with every change they make. The new algorithm and its 'recommendations' ignore mixes and any tracks over 10 mins, they've removed the New & Hot charts and replaced them with irrelevant crap like "Events near you", and this new UI has me searching for a way to revert it.
