Hot on the heels of Apply the Pressure, his collaboration with Kat Five, Misled Convoy brings you Translations II, a collection of his remixes drawn from a wide geographical and musical net: breakbeat pioneer FreQ Nasty; Auckland based singer and songwriter Sandy Mill; old school Kiwi producer The Nomad; downtempo duo Deep Fried Dub; Weston and Frizzell’s art project Cardboard&Computers; Michael’s collaboration with Paddy Free, Pitch Black, and East London duo Feral Five.

Also featured is his remix, with the assistance of audio maverick Uncle Fester on Acid, of Dub Syndicate's cover of Lloyd Parks’ “Mafia”, featuring the late Bim Sherman on vocals. Michael and Fester created their version using samples culled from DATs of the original recording sessions at The Manor studio in Oxford, which the duo had been archiving for On-U Sound.

For years Misled Convoy has made syrupy bass-heavy, predominantly instrumental dub tracks, but Translations II is awash with vocals. “I’ve spent the last year tucked away in my studio, hearing nothing but the haunting and powerful voices of Kat Five, Bim Sherman, Srikala, Luminahdi and others flowing around my studio, creating a connection to the wider world. Bring on the layrnx!”

As you might expect from a Misled Convoy release, the collection traverses a wide variety of genres, from electro house to dub techno, industrial ambience to broken beats, all now awash in a sea of dub effects, delay and reverb in his distinctive style. Some of the remixes simply re-present a new way to access and appreciate the original track, sometimes they produce completely different songs completely reimagined. 

 “I really love taking other people’s melodies and ideas and working them into completely new tracks with my production process. Because there is already a body of work, and the challenge is not having the original concept, but in the how I re-imagine that track into a new work, a new sound, a new state.

Four supremely talented vocalists: Lorna Young, sisters Alicia and Denise Amaro, and Sandra Gail Brown all come from musical families and grew up singing in church from an early age. This new group call themselves Fillies Finazz, and they truly are Philly's finest. Lorna Young, the brainchild behind this new aggregation, knew the minute she assembled this fine cast of experienced vocalists that she had indeed found something special. Between the Amaro sisters impeccable blood harmony, and the unique, diverse stylings of Young and Brown, Fillies Finazz represent a vocal quartet at the top of their game. Right out of high school Sandra Gail Brown joined the group "Sassafras" that included her sister Vera Brown and close friend Carlstein Levere. They recorded an album on the H&L label and shared the stage with major acts like BB King and Ray Charles. Sassafras stopped performing when Sandra's sister Vera became the lead singer for the world famous "Ritchie Family." Sandra toured as a background vocalist with The Village People and the Ritchie Family, and ended up performing in the UK, Scotland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Bavaria, and Holland. The talented Amaro sisters have performed all over the tri-state area including the prestigious Uptown Theater. Alicia has worked with many Philadelphia artists, not only as a singer but as a much in demand choreographer and vocal coach. As a teenager, Lorna Young became confident and comfortable as an entertainer when she joined the group "Ultimate Experience" and has since shared the stage with many well-known artists and entertainers over the years and is now 100% confident that she has found the right blend of people and talent in Fillies Finazz. The group met with the famed producer Butch Ingram from Society Hill Records to discuss a new recording project and their subsequent advance singles garnered great reviews from DJs and music professionals from around the world. The resulting full-length, titled “Singing For Tomorrow,” received acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic, and offered more proof of greatness from this talented foursome. As a gift for all the "Steppers" around the globe, one of the standout tracks from the album, "So I Can Love You" has been newly mixed for this special single.

Don't know about anyone else but I'm getting more disillusioned with SoundCloud with every change they make. The new algorithm and its 'recommendations' ignore mixes and any tracks over 10 mins, they've removed the New & Hot charts and replaced them with irrelevant crap like "Events near you", and this new UI has me searching for a way to revert it.
