Time and thought are the two variables that influence fear in our brains. Time is the interval between the present and the future, where we anticipate potential threats and challenges. Thought is the cognitive process that we use to simulate the possible outcomes and scenarios that may occur. But both time and thought are not objective phenomena in themselves. They are only mental representations that we use to interact with the world. The source of fear is the dependence on these representations, and the assumption that they are more relevant than the empirical evidence of the present moment. To reduce fear, we need to regulate time and thought, and align with the current state, where all is stable and calm. This is the goal of scientific rationality, to live in the present, and to rely on the empirical data.
