Stephen Lowell's musical influences span an impressive array of genre's and geographies. As a child he stayed up way past bedtime with a radio listening to Gene Shay spin folk and bluegrass out of Philadelphia. He continued his studies at Tulane University in New Orleans, where he learned far more about the soul of music outside of the classroom; listening in the clubs and playing on the streets. His later travels across Africa and Indonesia further contributed to his unique musical perspective. All these influences seep into Lowell's unique blend of folk, bluegrass, blues and roots music.
