At the time, I was seeking to describe the indescribable; a life experience that elicited feelings more intense than happiness, like the inexplicable emotions felt at the birth of one's first child, or one of those deeply transformational experiences that seem to expand out forever. I suppose it's best known as Joy.

But here it is, with warm thanks to Julien @musicar for adding his heartfelt touch with Strings.

721 - In Pictures

I am proud to share this new single with you. ‘The Inciting Incident’ represents a new phase of confidence in my work, and was cathartic to create. It is a polarizing piece – I received feedback that it was difficult to listen to, which makes me even prouder because overcoming my ‘pleaser’ saboteur has been a major part of my journey. I will be releasing a video about creating it later in the week, but the story behind the piece traces the conflict I experienced with my father as a boy.

Art is a transformative medium, and making music is a powerful way to deal with difficult emotions and process past trauma. I feel like after I made this, some of my negative feelings had metamorphosed into positive ones. I am grateful to have this outlet in my life, and to my audience for being with me on this journey.

I wrote this his song imagining the days when travelling large distances by foot was normal and the hardship encountered by a traveller on a long journey when the winter weather closes in......

Our process started off with a simple repeating chord progression on the piano for Helen to improvise over. We gradually added more elements once the vocal parts were complete and the final element is a field recording of the dawn chorus, recorded at 5am in our back garden.

"Smile" is a song based on an instrumental theme used in the soundtrack for Charlie Chaplin's 1936 movie Modern Times. Chaplin composed the music, inspired by Puccini's Tosca.[1] John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons added the lyrics and title in 1954.[2] In the lyrics, based on lines and themes from the film, the singer is telling the listener to cheer up and that there is always a bright tomorrow, just as long as they smile. "Smile" has become a popular standard since its original use in Chaplin's film.

Hi, I'm a keys player and I like making up grooves to existing jazz and latin standards. Over the last few years I've been mainly working on original numbers.

It's just me in the music you hear, I play all the parts off a keyboard recording in midi and layer up into the finished version.

I started playing the piano as a kid , then took up the trombone and played for fun in various local amateur bands and orchestras. Then at 18 went to college and didn't do anything  musically  for many years. Started playing the saxophone and tuba more recently, and in the last four years or so got back into the keyboard which is now my main instrument.

I like making up jazzy  late night music & music you can listen to when travelling. Sounds like a strange thing but I find the most enjoyable part of a holiday is the travelling part, whether that's on a plane , train or even a car on a quiet road with some nice views. Looking through a window with a changing view, in a bubble of suspended time between two worlds, that's what travelling feels like to me, and I like to write music that sounds that way - http://soundcloud.com/markd54321/361-stolen-moments-320kbps . Where does the time go?  Sorry to have not been here for a long time, this is due to the change of my job and ultimately my personal time.  But I will return as often as I can.
