We are proud to present our next release, Lemma2! 

As a true lemma it both stands on its own and supports the larger theorem: to explore bass heavy music across a span of tempos and time signatures. Lemma2 goes deeper into the ideas presented in Lemma1, this time drawing inspiration from DnB, Dubstep, and Footwork. The result being a collection of sprawling 160BPM polyrhythmic rollers.

Side A ventures into sound design, mangling field recordings collected on travels far and beyond into almost unrecognizable shapes. Side B takes on a more percussive tip, driving for the dance floor with some stepping d&b-not-d&b business and footwork interpretations.

Hidden Character

Amsterdam-based DJ and producer Monty DJ debuts on his own Flippen Disks with the release of the "Dogs are sometimes Fishes EP." This 5-tracker showcases Monty DJ's versatility and adventurous spirit, as he combines rhythmic experiments with a keen ear for sound design, perfectly reflecting the essence of the imprint itself.

The EP opens with the mesmerizing track "Rally," which captivates listeners with its fragmented structure, falling out of and back into groove continuously while piano stabs, floaty melodies and a guitar solo provide guidance. Rally is followed by Poing, a bubbly club track with big kicks, breathy pads and intricately layered grooves.

On the B-side of the EP, listeners are treated to "Gina," an enthralling composition where disharmonic synth rain dances above a solid kick-hat groove. The track is further enhanced by rolling snares and a dynamic 3-bar break that continuously shifts the meter.

The EP also includes remixes by a talented UK-based producers Caldera and Ikävä Pii, each offering their unique take on „Poing“.

Caldera's remix exhibits laid-back and hypnotic minimal vibes, emphasizing groove and a wide sound stage. Ikävä Pii presents his "Stretch" Version, a slow-burning dembow chugger that seamlessly transitions into double time midway through, providing an intriguing transformation of the original track.

Amsterdam based molecular biologist, producer and rising talent Teqmun debuts on Flippen Bits with five bits of his warm and uncannily organic sound. 

Organic Oscillations EP is a fresh blend of melancholic IDM, dreamy vocal chops, punchy rhythms and playful break-beat techno. The perfect representation of Teqmun’s approach to music: Energetic, highly emotional and musically wide-open, willing to take inspiration from all realms of contemporary music.
To complete the pack Pariah joins the party and delivers an excellent wobbling roller remix.

The nature inspired track titles of the EP establish a connection between the tracks and the organic world. 
The term - oscillations - refers to the rhythmic, wave-like patterns found in various biological processes such as the beating of a heart or the swaying of plants in the wind. Organic Oscillations suggests that the music captures the essence of these natural patterns, creating a sonic experience that resonates with the organic world.

While Aphid Walk refers to the infrastructural challenges and solutions of the insect world, Parachute Kernel is a seed that has developed a specific structure that allows for it to be carried by the wind. Balsa parallels the sounds of the track with the features of a kind of wood that goes by the same name: it’s one of the lightest woods we know yet incredibly solid. Blossom reminisces the different stages of a flower while developing (just like the track) and And Nettle Dweller, well, you have to be really brave to want to live on stinging nettles, rather appropriate to the stingy track that it is.

“Splashes of color accent immersive and introspective environments full of unexpected aural organisms and secret passageways. Playful rhythms bounce off of one another, discreetly stuttering and slithering between carefully considered spectral and pointillistic textures. An enveloping bass weight massages the listener, providing the foundation to an alien world full of unknown life. The landscape is shrouded in a mist of psychedelic fog, which clears in brief moments revealing shimmering and resplendent views that defy language. Coming down from the heights, we are taken back into the depths of this new terrain, grappling with how to describe what was experienced. The first release from Markham Road comes in the form of a VA spined by frequent collaborators of its sister platform Infame Radio. The consequent nine tracks vary along a scale of percussive rhythms both relating to established and experimental ideas. As a trial in itself, this project took shape through exponential conversations between all those creatively involved. All tracks are written and mixed by each respective artist.
