Journeys is a mix series concept, which sees myself and a guest both deliver a 10 track warm up set and a 10 track peak time set, which are then intertwined as one comprehensive set. The concept allows guest DJs to express a personalised, diverse interpretation of trance music you’d hear both at the start and at the end of a night out at your favourite event. It also challenges me to select tracks which continue the flow of the set seamlessly and to tell a story, with the end goal of taking listeners….on a Journey.

I first started djing in the early 00's when my clubbing journey started. I spent a good few years away from the decks before refinding my love of it in the last couple of years. Most of my classics mixes are influenced from my clubbing days in Gatecrasher & Godskitchen. My decks were stolen in Feb 2022 and I am still gutted and always will be but an amazing group of people including a lot I don't know personally managed to raise the funds to buy me a new pair thanks to my wonderful partner in crime for finding a great replacement pair, after a nightmare time with the insurance company bastards.  

Here is a mix of 40 tunes I love from the good old days of trance influenced by old crasher albums and my time at Godsktichen 97-2003 (the best era imo in particular 98/99) exactly a year after it all happened.

We're up to 005 with the series. The guest this time is none other than Eddie Swales. Eddie Swales' passion is trance music. 2 years ago he took the plunge and took a keen interest in DJing. Eddie quickly realised from his impressive reach with his mixes and radio shows that he had discovered a raw talent and an outlet for his love for all things trance. With a substantial back catalogue of classics influenced from the Gatecrasher era of the late 90s and early 2000s, his style continues to evolve and incorporates tech trance and tracks from the modern day trance. With his sights set on entering the realms of production in the future, Eddie continues to express his love for our favourite genre via as many avenues as possible.

Born in the hot summer of 1979, I grew up in the center of The Netherlands. At the age of 12 I discovered the wonderful new genre of House music. Still a schoolboy, I used all my pocket money to buy cassette tapes of famous Dutch house compilations like Move The House, Turn up the Bass & House Party. In the following years several new subgenres emerged, in which the melodic ones were my favourites. That means lots of Eurodance, and instead of the popular Dutch Hardcore, I chose for German Rave and Hardtrance. That combination of powerful beats with lots of melodies was golden and formed my music taste.

Some years through genres like Dream House, Club Trance and the famous Pizzicato house followed and the first Trancemaster! CD’s were collected. And then the year 1999 came, I discovered a strange imported English mix compilation called Gatecrasher:Wet
It contained a wonderful combination of trance tracks from all over Europe. At that moment I started to save some money for buying my first turntables. When I bought my first 2 belt drive turntables and a basic mixer a new world opened. The world was far less international so it was quit a challenge to get those gems from abroad. In 2005 this trance addiction was expanded with producing my own tracks with the then brand new FruityLoops software. Exploring all ranges of trance music my production portfolio is very diverse, like all the different music styles I like to play. 

Being a bedroom producer and DJ for many years my collection grew to about 2500 records ranging from deep progressive house to hardtrance. Around 2007/2008 vinyl records stopped being the main medium for electronic music and things were getting all digital. Missing the fun part of buying and spinning part of records, together with a changing sound of trance made that spinning music was not on my highest rank anymore. But although not too active, this was the period that I discovered harmonic mixing, which still forms the base of all my mixes. By combining the harmonies of different tracks, my mixes are full of homemade mash-ups and by using the harmonic mixing wheel I try to make one continuous journey through harmonies.

In these years my turntables and record collection were gathering dust. I still followed the trance scene sideways and made an occasional mix (with Virtual DJ) or track. In 2018 something changed. I decided to go to a trance festival again after 15 years, so me and my friends made a trip to Luminosity Beach Festival 2018. I was overwhelmed by the fact that this scene was so much more alive than I expected. Especially the fact that there were so many DJ’s that still played those classic trance tracks. Inspired by those sets I decided to upload some of my older mixes on my SoundCloud page for all those classic trance lovers. 

In the past 4 years I created my own themes for my mixes, some modern ones but lots of classics. For example my yearbooks in honour to those golden years of trance. My Exhibition of Classic Trance does reflect my personal taste the best, those mixes are always more than 3 hours to ensure a complete journey through different styles of trance. My personal favourite series is Hidden Treasures, which completely consists of all those hidden gems from back in the days. Of course I love the obvious classics, just as much as all trance lovers, but mixes with only the well-known classics are sometimes a bit exchangeable. With these hidden treasures I can let people discover tracks they never heard of and be more unique. It’s my pleasure to provide you all with a broad range of trance music.
