My second string quartet from 2004 in a live-recording by the long defunct Zephyr Quartet from Amsterdam. It has four parts or episodes, the last three of which overlap, exhibiting various levels of freedom, working towards a utopian future: 1. Grids (trying to break out of a mould, the music strictly governed by Fibonacci series), 2. Drift (flowing freely, without goal or purpose), 3. Split (all four completely free, unhinged, lawless), 4. Shift (free, yet together, in the sense that all 'sing' the same melody). Musically, my favourite is part two.

Four Parts (String Quartet No. 2)

The Septet from 1992 was Martijn Voorvelt's first publicly performed piece. The instrumentation is flute, bassoon, piano, percussion, two violins and double bass. The recording is by Ensemble Numanwari. The idea was to write a fun and colourful piece which is very actually stricly (mathematically) organised, but in such a way that you don't really notice it. A Fibonacci series governs the harmonic structure as well as the horizontal form (on seven levels, no less).

Purely vocal experiments with a simple Fostex 4-track cassette recorder around 1994 (?). Three parts: Klink ('vowel' or 'resound'), Air (mostly breath sounds) and Sprek ('versation')
