Mandalas are Buddhist devotional images often deemed a diagram or symbol of an ideal universe. Mandalas come in many forms. Often they are painted on scrolls and taken with travelers over long distances across the Eurasian continent. A mandala is a symbol of the universe in its ideal form, and its creation signifies the transformation of a universe of suffering into one of joy. It can also be used as an aid to meditation, helping the meditator to envision how to achieve the perfect self.

The Second Arrow
The parable of the second arrow is a well-known Buddhist story about dealing with suffering more skilfully. It is said the Buddha once asked a student,
‘If a person is struck by an arrow, is it painful? If the person is struck by a second arrow, is it even more painful?’
He then went on to explain,
‘In life, we can’t always control the first arrow. However, the second arrow is our reaction to the first. This second arrow is optional.’
This is sometimes interpreted as meaning that pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.

Many researchers believe that altered states of consciousness are integral and very important part of human history - they are maybe even key to understanding the beginning of the Art itself, showing us first cave paintings through the prism of ecstatic shamanic trances.
But what are altered states of consciousness? Are they merely illusions of intoxicated mind or is there something more to it, something allowing us to visit some far more complex levels of reality than our own?

This album investigates that world on the other side of the mirror, the source of visionary inspiration for mystics, prophets, shamans and artists from all over the world and all over time.
