First released in 2013, the track "Nobody" by Teklife crew duo Tripletrain (DBK & Mel G) became a cult favorite among producers, djs, and club goers alike. It features distorted lyrics and samples from the classic single Are You That Somebody by Aaliyah, along with tons of drums, chords, and patterns which sound just as refreshing as they did when the EP "Just For Decoration Pt 2" was first released by Tripletrain 9 years ago. DJ Rashad was and still is a legend.  Not only was he a Footwork and Juke pioneer but also one of the hardest working DJs and producers I've ever met.  The dude really never stopped working.  He was either globetrotting and spreading the sound of Chicago around the world or in the lab pushing himself to expand his sound further and further.  On April 26 2014 the world lost one of the most inspiring and talented artists of our time.  His spirit moves through Teklife, the dancers, his friends and everyone he has touched or influenced.

Over the past few years I've been lucky enough to collaborate with Rashad and even be remixed by him.  The tracks were never completely finished and seemed impossible to finish after he passed.  Eventually I mustered up enough courage to open the sessions and finish them.  It is what Rashad would have wanted me to do.  

"Movin' Forward" is a collection of those collaborations plus two exclusive unreleased Machinedrum tracks that were heavily inspired by Rashad and the Teklife crew.  I called it "Movin' Forward" because I know Rashad wants everyone he touched to keep pushing themselves and follow in his footsteps on the path he had been creating all these years.  I'm proud to have known him, shared the stage with him and to have collaborated with him.  May his sound and spirit continue to inspire and spread through everyones speakers!  Teklife to tha next life!!

Understand is the first track off of 'Movin' Forward',  out on Friday April 24th. 100% proceeds will go to his family and estate.

DJ Rashad, Nick Hook & Machinedrum - Understand

Hailing from Los Angeles and currently based out of Santiago, Chile, producer Brian Gibbs writes tracks under a number of aliases spanning a myriad of genres, including techno, dubstep, and drum and bass. His work under the moniker Gunjack (@gunjackofficial) focuses on the realm of juke and footwork. (Gibbs is also the head of Chilean juke record label Repotrax, and has previously worked with footwork originator Traxman, and shared bills with Teklife’s DJ Spinn.)

Today, we're premiering Gunjack's "Is It A Crime," a cut of the forthcoming third volume of Moveltraxx's Street Bangers Factory series. Gunjack previously appeared on the first edition of the series with "Dangerous," and now he returns with a collaboration featuring producer DIRT. The two first met on tour in California a couple years back. Gunjack tell us over email that "DIRT traveled specifically to Santiago to finish the track." Gunjack and DIRT flip Sade's "Is It A Crime," looping the original's hook and add footwork flavored percussion under.
