this piece is a study of decay, release and fading out of a sound within a constantly changing, virtual space. evolving reverberation fighting against zero resonance. probing the fathomless. a gradual immersion. a collapse into absence. 

virtual, hybrid tuba modelled after the timbral (spectral) characteristics of three different types of the instrument prepared with baritone sax mouthpiece; cross-synthesized and filtered using carefully chosen envelopes of several contrabass clarinet multiphonics

Mateusz Śmigasiewicz (1989), artysta dźwiękowy, kompozytor, muzyk. Absolwent Uniwersytetu Muzycznego Fryderyka Chopina w Warszawie w klasie kompozycji i multimediów prof. Zygmunta Krauze. Uczestnik kursów kompozytorskich pod kierunkiem wielu wybitnych artystów, takich jak Simon Steen-Andersen, Phillipp Manoury, Johannes Kreidler, Mark Andre, Agata Zubel, Stefan Prins, Marco Stroppa, Marta Ptaszyńska, Maurizio Sotelo, czy Ondřej Adámek. Działa twórczo na wielu polach, komponując muzykę kameralną, symfoniczną, elektroakustyczną oraz muzykę ilustracyjną do teatru i filmu. 

Interesuje go rozstrajanie zastanych współbrzmień, zagęszczanie faktur, rozciąganie czasu, rozszerzanie przestrzeni – również poprzez tworzenie na zasadzie bliskiej współpracy z wykonawcą. Działa intuicyjnie, choć bliska jest mu procesualność. Uwielbia aranżować sytuacje, w których reguły komunikacji nie są do końca jasne, posługując się przeczuciami zamiast słów.

Mateusz Śmigasiewicz (b. 1989) is a Polish composer, sound artist and musician. He studied with prof. Zygmunt Krauze at Fryderyk Chopin Music University and in 2015 gained a master degree in composition and multi-media (graduation - 2015). He participated in master classes with many composers, including Simon Steen-Andersen, Phillippe Manoury, Johannes Kreidler, Mark Andre, Stefan Prins, Marco Stroppa, Ondřej Adámek. Mateusz works in many areas, composing chamber music, electroacoustic, electronic music and music film and theater.

He is interested in detuning existing consonances, thickening textures, stretching time, expanding space - also by creating in close collaboration with the performer. He works intuitively, although processuality is important to him. He loves to arrange situations in which the rules of communication are not entirely clear, using premonitions instead of words.
