We also create with Mireille "Mimi" Lévis a collaboration and finally a duo group name Spleen Overseas.
Spleen Overseas is a Franco-Canadian alternative rock project at the crossroads of lo-fi, intimacy, and poetry. Founded in March 2019, the duo consists of Mathieu (aka Matiou) – bassist, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist – and Mireille Lévis, lyricist, singer, and visual artist.
Rooted in the DIY spirit, their sound is built on raw textures, captivating atmospheres, and deeply evocative lyrics. The band draws influence from The Velvet Underground, Joy Division, David Bowie, and Iggy Pop, creating a minimalistic yet emotionally charged aesthetic.
The name Spleen Overseas reflects both their geographical reality – between Canada and France – and their artistic universe. The word spleen, borrowed from Baudelaire, evokes a poetic world of melancholy, beauty, and inner storms.
Mireille Lévis contributes a cinematic lyricism to Mathieu’s music, blending vulnerability and intensity. Their sound often draws comparisons to artists like Cocteau Twins and Portishead, existing in a soundscape where the lyrics take center stage.
