I dedicated this song to my youngest sister. In our family, she's always been the one who felt the most. For a long time, however, she was taught that she was stupid and unintelligent. She was deported to special school and classified as slightly mentally handicapped. Only now at the beginning of her 50s has she gradually found a tender inner peace after many years of experience of stigmatisation and exclusion.
In the lyrics and sound, I try to convey my deepest sympathy for her and all people who may not think so quickly, but who have a great intuition and enormous heart intelligence.

Den Song habe ich meiner jüngsten Schwester gewidmet. In unserer Familie war sie schon immer die, die am meisten gespürt hat. Lange Zeit wurde ihr aber vermittelt, dass Sie dumm und unintelligent sei. Sie wurde in die Sonderschule abgeschoben und als leicht geistig behindert eingestuft. Erst jetzt mit Anfang 50 hat Sie allmählich nach den langjährigen Stigmatisierungs- und Ausgrenzungserfahrungen einen zarten inneren Frieden gefunden.
In dem Text und dem Sound versuche mein tiefes Mitgefühl für Sie und alle Menschen rüberzubringen, die vielleicht nicht so schnell im Denken sind, aber eine große Intuition und eine enorme Herzensintelligenz haben.

Ce sont des chansons rituelles qui accompagnent les différentes étapes d'un mariage traditionnel. Elles forment le plus grand sous-groupe de chansons lyriques folkloriques sur la vie de famille. La première référence aux chansons de mariage dans les sources écrites remonte à 1096, et les premiers extraits publiés de chansons de mariage ont paru en 1820. 

Bien que toutes les chansons rituelles aient progressivement perdu leur signification magique, les chansons de mariage ont conservé une telle signification plus longtemps que les autres. Elles peuvent être divisés en quatre groupes en fonction de leur rôle dans le mariage: des chansons qui sont étroitement liées à un seul événement du mariage, par exemple les rituels du pain, des branches ou des guirlandes du mariage; des chansons qui accompagnent plusieurs étapes du mariage; des chansons qui peuvent être chantées pendant diverses parties du mariage; et des chansons dont la relation avec le mariage a été oubliée. Les chansons du premier groupe sont les plus anciennes. 

Les chansons de mariage peuvent également être divisées en fonction des différentes étapes du mariage. En fait, il n'y a pas de rituel de mariage sans chanson d'accompagnement.  Les thèmes de base sont les difficultés qui attendent le jeune couple, en particulier la mariée dans sa nouvelle maison avec les parents du marié; séparation d'avec son aimé; le mariage forcé avec un homme répugnant; la mère compréhensive; la belle-mère cruelle; et les sentiments tendres du jeune couple. 

Aujourd'hui, les chansons de mariage ont presque complètement disparu des cérémonies de mariage. Ils sont joués uniquement sur scène sous une forme stylisée et dramatisée par des ensembles folkloriques.

English translation 

Ritual songs that accompany the different stages of a traditional wedding. They form the largest subgroup of lyrical folk songs on family life. The earliest reference to wedding songs in the written sources dates back to 1096, and the first published samples of wedding songs appeared in 1820.  

Although all ritual songs have gradually lost their magical meaning, wedding songs retained such a meaning longer than other songs. They can be divided into four groups according to their role in the wedding: songs that are closely tied to only one event in the wedding, for example, the wedding bread, branch, or wreath rituals; songs that accompany several stages of the wedding; songs that may be sung during various parts of the wedding; and songs whose relation to the wedding has been forgotten. Songs of the first group are the oldest. 

Wedding songs can also be divided according to the various stages of the wedding. In fact there is no wedding ritual without an accompanying song. The basic themes are the hardships awaiting the young couple, particularly the bride in her new home with the groom's parents; separation from one's beloved; the forced marriage to a repugnant man; the understanding mother; the cruel mother-in-law; and the tender feelings of the young couple. 

Today wedding songs have disappeared almost completely from the wedding ceremonies. They are performed only on stage in a stylized and dramatized form by folk ensembles.

Matteo Zaccagnino is a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter based in Italy. He started his musical journey as a beatmaker, then slowly turned to the drums; later he switched to bass and played in local ethnic-folk bands. In the meanwhile, he practiced his guitar and singing skills influenced by artists such as Jeff Buckley, Joni Mitchell and Alt-j. As natural as it could be, original music started to flow out of this filled-to-the-brim melting pot, resulting in his 12-track album Motel Room, out in 2019.
