Smalts bandmembers participated in Dutch electronic band Minny Pops. It adds a fascinating dimension to their sound. As one of the first Dutch bands signed to Factory Records alongside Joy Division and New Order, Minny Pops helped define the electronic music landscape of the early 1980s. Their innovative use of drum machines and synthesizers, particularly the Mini Pops drum machine that gave them their name, established new possibilities for electronic music production. This experimental heritage now feeds into Smalts' modern versioning approach, creating a unique bridge between mechanical precision and organic reinterpretation. 

They use acoustic-, electronic- and ethnic instruments such as flamenco guitar, krar sitar, masenqo, gamelan, and synthesizers. They play new wave-, idie-, world- and alternative rock songs.

All poems in their songs are from English-, American-, Dutch- and Russian origin. They are their foundation of realism, surrealism and absurdism. Smalts uses texts from Allen Ginsberg, surrealist texts from Louis Lehmann, and religious poems from Emily Dickinson. 

Smalts wraps  text with music. They mix genres and use different playing styles.

Smalts allows the music to frame a poem and sometimes to contradict it. "We present the listener an alternative way to experience texts of poets. Poems are no longer  an autonomous artistic expressions, but absorbed in a container they tell a new story together with music. It is like an exhibition in which paintings by great masters can be admired. As individual pieces they have proven their place in art history and have their own message. In an exhibition shown in conjunction with works from other artists, they are part of what the exhibitionmaker wants to tell the viewer"

Rex Potam: A Journey Through Song and Symphony

With a voice seasoned by nearly four decades of singing, Rex Potam embarked on a new creative chapter in 2016. Though professional circumstances led him to step away from the choir, his passion for music found a fresh outlet in composition.

Rex is a self-taught singer-songwriter, drawn to crafting music that paints vivid sonic landscapes. His style seamlessly blends classic influences with an acoustic sensibility, evident both in his solo songwriting and collaborations with other artists.

But Rex's musical spectrum extends far beyond the realm of song. He delves into the world of classical composition, creating pieces that resonate with the richness and depth of the tradition. More than 25 years as a rookie on my belt
Making music - in my case - is a creative exercise and something I like to do for recreational purposes, above all.
I love that anyone can take a guitar, their DAW, or whatever. Even just pen and paper, and come up with something special and unique that has never been heard or written.
This opportunity, regardless of experience and talent, to enter a universe and go places no one has set foot before, is magic. 
To draw a parallel to soccer, Im a non-league player, and would get attention for all the wrong reasons if I were thrown into a match with Salah, Haaland and the like. Still, by finding my level I can be part of an amateur team that serves a purpose in a local community, like a social meeting spot for people who like football - or don't - to come together, get into talks through a comment on a situation in the match and such. And you know what's coolest of all? Once in a while, when the sun and moon line up, I`m on a streak with my evening prayers or for some other reason have my day, I make this amazing dribble, then score a spectacular goal, becoming the local hero of the day or something. Those moments happen on all levels. Chances are perhaps even better on lower levels for this dribble to never have been seen before, since amateur football is not as controlled and professionalised as La Liga, Premier League, etc, leaving much more room for experimentation and individual creativity.

Send me a sound file, - soccer being a metaphor after all -  of your magic moment, it being a victorious match full song or just this cool detail you like, perhaps a great lyric line, guitar riff, or even cover art, all goes, so I get the chance to enjoy it too, thanks in advance!

Even though I scream inside because of America's shit show, I'm still Rebecca, an old hippie rocker. When you read my comments, hear them in a southern drawl. I’m a liberal from Georgia … yes, we do exist. I moved to Hawaii about 20 years ago. 

I’ve been around the block a few times. Played a lot of guitar and a bit of other instruments. Mostly I've worked as a visual artist. I've spent some years in the music biz with a major label and my own indie label. I’ve done some other interesting things, too, including: horse training, long motorcycle trips, movie set design, accompanying my wife on her pro bowling tours, and I've seen a good bit of the world. Now I’m retired and still keep busy doing all the things I want to do.
